I have been working at HHC Bellevue Hospital (More than 5 years)

    Pros

you're going to encounter much more than you expect for any title you're in, so soak up the experience...it will have a payoff

    Cons

management too invested in how it used to be. purposely throws old mindset into new system to sabotage outcome

    Advice to Management

if you're not willing to adjust to a new way of thinking, leave already. you're sinking the rest of us holding on to methods that were outdated when originally conceived in the 90s

I have been working at HHC Bellevue Hospital full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Working with a population that really benefits from services is rewarding. Additionally, you get a lot of experience and learn a ton.

    Cons

Overworked. Hard to get replacement staff when someone leaves in any department. They don't promote from within or value good employees. Most of management doesn't communicate well and in certain departments the management doesn't have good management skills.

    Advice to Management

Value staff, give them an opportunity grow in their roles and in their salary. Provide the basic necessities to do good work and re-hire positions so as to not overwork and exhausted current staff, this will lead to more satisfied workers and better patient care.

I worked at HHC Bellevue Hospital full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Provide services to people in need

    Cons

Terrible , arbitrary and abusive Managers.

    Advice to Management

Upper management needs to wake -up and hire or promote educated individuals and get ride off those bullies that don't have proper credentials only 2 years of college or even worse a certificate of nursing that might work three decades ago with barbarian tactics and terrible work ethics. This long time bullies stay in power because intimidation, humiliation and abusive behavior again new nurses is permitted. Working with such bullies create a nightmare conditions at the end nobody wins they get ride off new nurses and the cycle starts again .

I have been working at HHC Bellevue Hospital full-time

    Pros

It is great working with the patients

    Cons

Racism against African American employees especially African American RN's working on the floor. We all know this is going on but it is swept under the rug and not spoken about. If you are a PCT, PCA or janitor you are ok but if you are a African American RN the filipino's will do everything in their power to band together to have you fired, treat you badly so you'll want to leave or even make you lose your license if you allow them too. If you are agency, fine. But as a black staff nurse it has been hell for me. The African Americans who work in administration look like they wised up to the situation and know where they belong because most of them would not dare work as a staff nurse on the floors.

    Advice to Management

Please!! address the racism with Filipino's against Black RN's on the floors. It's been swept under the rug for too long.

I have been working at HHC Bellevue Hospital (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great place to work and excellent training ground to all inexperienced. A lot of experts in their fields. A lot of great, compassionate nurses

    Cons

Inconsistent follow up by some leaders. Some staff are rude to colleagues and customers.

    Advice to Management

Need to improve on employee empowerment, engagement and enforcing accountability. Keep an open communication in all levels of employment ( senior to low-level management to front line staff)

    Positive Outlook

I worked at HHC Bellevue Hospital full-time

    Pros

The IT team at Bellevue are AWESOME! (for lack of a better word).... Management are work horses themselves. They have worked the floor before, they aren't just a bunch of paper pushers or dictators. I believe that is what impowers their staff to keep following their lead.

    Cons

To mention a bad point would be to state the obvious of all IT departments. This team truly turns their cons into working pros. Hard to do but they do it ... And like a family.

    Advice to Management

no matter what happens above your head keep the team strong the way you have. Keep it up.
