I worked at HI-Crush Proppants (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good pay and benefits. Autonomy to make decisions and move process forward.

    Cons

Inept senior leadership in key positions. Very poor communication channels. Areas of responsibility were 'blurred' at senior levels. That is, departments heads (directors; VP's; Exec. VP's) often overstepped their areas of competence and direct responsibility. This created chaotic actions and excessive cost overruns. There was never a consistent plan when it came to desired outcomes and the projects were in a constant state of flux. Minimal structure...too much 'free-lancing'.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the cronyism and hire competent people in leadership roles. Accountability is lacking and senior leadership continues to live off of their earlier 'successes' that occurred when it was hard to fail in this industry. Once the market for their product stabilized, their inefficiencies became evident but nothing was done since they were integral in the initial growth of the organization. Good soldiers don't always make good leaders!

    Pros

    Good starting wage and benefits

    Cons

Not much position training for whats expected of you.

    Advice to Management

Make sure new hires actually get training the 1st month of "training " before sending them to night shift and expecting them handle any situation that arises.

    I worked at HI-Crush Proppants full-time

    Pros

Good pay, the possibility to advance when you put forth effort. People willing to help you learn and grow. Goals and direction of the company are clearly communicated.

    Cons

Young company, has some growing pains. The whole industry is going through a tough time, which has an effect on employees' overall attitude towards the company.

    Advice to Management

Management does an effective job overall. There should be more accountability instilled, specifically for people who are late or just not working.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at HI-Crush Proppants full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Relatively decent wage, though with the constant danger of acquiring silicosis..the benefits don't outweigh the risk

    Cons

Management was known for making huge promises of promotions and advancement mostly as a scam to keep it's employees, eventually most employees figured out this tactic, and many left, in essence forcing the company to pay a higher wage.

    Advice to Management

You are here for only one obvious reason, to rape Wisconsin of its natural resources and it's workforce of it's good reputation for hard work, yet rewarding them with nothing but ridicule and empty promises, clean up you're act and you could be a great company to work for, not just one with a growing list of MSHA violations, and a very poor safety record
