    Negative Outlook

I have been working at HM Health Solutions full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    1. Good pay 2. Good industry experience if you find a good team and stay for a while

    Cons

    1. New hmhs prez seemed to be man with the plan but doesn’t look like is able to turnaround the company yet. Been 2 years. 2. Highmark CEO should be gone by now - under his leadership ton of jobs are lost, I understand year-end pruning of non-performers but this is something else. HMHS is not his focus anyway, it was just an entity created for some tax spinoff. Why is he still paid in millions? 3. Non-stop layoffs, in the process many good people are sometimes let go 4. HMHS should start charging plan partners more or let go more non-essential people if they ever want to make a decent profit. 5. Core domains like CMI, Membership, Billing should be given priority to be retained during layoffs. There seems to be plenty of fluff in the company, all the non-essential supporting IT staff should be the one's to be shed off first. Unfortunately the Sr leadership (VP and up) for these non-core domains are pretty strong/influential and somehow majority of core domains folks are let go every time. Prez is either turning a blind eye to this or he doesn’t have a clue. 6. This firm is still top heavy. Recently one good decision was taken to let go entire customer success team. Customer success for god sake, no clear goal and overlapping responsibilities with customer support. These managers were known to jump on to work outside their scope just to show they were contributing. 7. There are more people asking for status than people doing the actual work. 8. Employee morale all time low, waiting for over years for it to improve. 9. More layoff to come in 2020 for sure

I have been working at HM Health Solutions full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Decent pay for a city like Pittsburgh. Good health insurance benefits. Good for undergrads to start their career.

    Cons

Increasingly toxic work culture due to leadership changes and massive ,ill-informed layoffs in 2019. Limited trust among employees who spend most of the time CYA rather than doing what is best for the company. Mired in processes (that change daily) that will suck out any remaining productivity. New COO (now President of HMHS) tried to stabilize a sinking ship, but the opacity around the changes he made let to a culture worse than before. Am concerned of the long term viability of the business, as a separate entity , and feel that most likely HMHS would merge back with Highmark Health in the near future.
