I have been working at HMA (Honda Manufacturing of Alabama) part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The pay is great. Most coworkers are helpful and will assist you if you need to catch up. The company culture is fun and hardworking. The success of each shift depends on every worker, so you feel that your contribution is important and valued.

    Cons

It is repetitive, but job rotation solves that to some degree. You will learn more processes the longer you stick with it. Certain departments such as welding regularly work over one to two hours, but overtime pay makes it worth it for most. You just have to be prepared to stay over if needed.

    Advice to Management

Make sure you acknowledge hard work, it goes a long way in motivating your subordinates.

I worked at HMA (Honda Manufacturing of Alabama) full-time

    Pros

Great benefits, good salary, very stable job security. Upper management such as President and Vice President levels are actually very good at their jobs and very motivating. Overall the best company I have ever worked for. Honda is one of the few companies that truly care about their associates (employees), at least at the Lincoln AL plant.

    Cons

Some managers (mid level) promoted to make a "quota" and not base on experience or knowledge. They also are more interested in how upper management perceives them and less worried about motivating the associates that report to them.

I have been working at HMA (Honda Manufacturing of Alabama) full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

-You can flex hours or days of the week if you work on a weekend.
-Access to material or equipment is pretty good
-lots of overtime if you want to work overtime.

    Cons

Depending on department (WE) mandatory weekend work mostly long hours10 +.
You may work Holidays, it may not to the day but when everyone in the plant it on a Holiday break depending on your department (Weld and New Model) you still have to work.

    Advice to Management

Stop pushing Project leads to complete projects in a small time frame. There should be a knowledge transfer program from senior Engineers to new once. have to reduce on the job training.

I have been working at HMA (Honda Manufacturing of Alabama) full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The pay is great even for temporary associates. Most people are helpful and friendly.

    Cons

The shift rotation, management treatment of temp associates verses HMA associates is obvious being that Temps are treated poorly, the announcement of overtime often comes late into your shift, training for new associates is poor.

    Advice to Management

Treat all the associates equal, take the time to sit down with new associates, give a tour and explain plant operations more clearly, and last but not least let's face it life happens the attendance policy is obserd.

I worked at HMA (Honda Manufacturing of Alabama) full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There is a massive amount of experience to be gained working in QA. At some point or another, you'll end up working with just about every department within the plant, and you'll also work with suppliers, design studios, testing facilities, and other plants. You will get CAD& hands on experience, and just about anything else if you try for it. This is a perfect place to gain experience, bulk out your resume.

Honda's Core Values are great, and Honda's culture is one of acceptance, learning, and personal growth. But.... see the cons section

    Cons

It is trial by fire, with practically zero mentor ship from management. Trying to work with other departments (or even in QA) can prove extremely grating, as they are stuck in their ways. You will always have an incredible amount of work (although they DO pay for overtime, it's possible to make $80k starting....). But the worst thing about working there is management. There are quite a few people who get promoted based on the buddy system. Others are promoted to a position where they can no longer directly negatively impact projects. Some managers want to help, but seriously have no time to help. Some are just terrible leaders AND they are too busy.

Unless you would like to become part of management, there is not a whole lot of room for vertical movement.

The culture at HMA specifically is stifling. Some associates are just indifferent, self-entitled, lack any motivation, and are quick to shut down any ideas for improvements if it means them having to do work, or even just do something different.

    Advice to Management

Spend more time on practical training, come up with a way to mentor new hires, have a clear plan for what work QA should do, and ensure that workload matches the manpower.

I worked at HMA (Honda Manufacturing of Alabama) full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Respect for the individual.
    Great benefits
    Bonus plan
    Good advancement opportunities
Overall great management with some exceptions
    Overall good place to work.

    Cons

    Crazy busy at times
Don't always give you the resources needed to do the job efficiently (some of this is due to culture differences)
Some department procedures are vague and management expects you to learn them via osmosis.
If you are not familiar with Japanese business practices, it will take some getting used to.

    Advice to Management

Increase resources, especially at New Model timing. (Manpower, equipment, etc.)
Don't promote Team Mangers before they are ready. Some have great potential but don't relate well with their associates.
