    Cons

Understaffed management, cruise ship customers can be a pain

    Advice to Management

Get more managers on the floor to help your employees take a lunch break and go to the bathroom!

    Pros

    Benefits
    Union
    $18 per diem for lunch

    Cons

    Disorganized management
    Disorganized HR Office
    Sexual Harassment
    Doesn't promote from within
    Employees food options limited
    Favortism
    Plenty of isms really
Older employees holding on to their seniority means that you will have to work when it's convenient for management

    Advice to Management

HMS LAX needs an entire overhaul. Get rid of managers who are underperforming and have complaints against them instead of moving them to another terminal. Better training for everyone. Get the right people working in HR, there aren't that many. Pay better attention to your employees concerns and maybe then your bottom line can be protected.

    Pros

Best company I have ever worked for! Compassionate Management team, lots of money to be made, great benefits, and a fun team of employees to work with....I was given numerous awards for Customer service as well!

    Cons

I can't figure out why they won't hire me now. They have before and I have been an asset to their company. Age must be an issue...

    Advice to Management

Rehire me! I will still be an asset to your company and my bartender skills are still awesome. I promise I will never leave again...

    Pros

Decent tips even on slow days because everything at the airport is expensive. $15 double Bloody Mary's can make a tab & your tip grow quickly. Individual benefits are excellent - no family benefits though. Good hourly wage. I know bartenders who have worked there 20, 23, and 30 tears. The opportunity for a career is there. All the bartenders at the airport are union. New people to talk to all the time, but you rarely have regulars.

    Cons

When you start you are at the bottom of the seniority list. When it is the time of year to bid on shifts, the newest bartenders get the slower bars for business in general because the best shifts are taken by the senior bartenders.. The Cops run stings through the airport where an undercover officer sends a minor in to all the bars who orders a drink. If you serve him/her the undercover cop comes behind the bar, cuffs the bartender and hauls him away. I think that is entrapment, but it is reality.

    Advice to Management

Make sure to have proper marketing in the form of signage for all cafe's and bars, especially the off the beaten track ones.

    Pros

Good place for the beginning bartender. More of a cashier in the morning than a bartender.

    Cons

Meal allowance no longer pays for a meal. Prices too high. Poor tips in morning. Tips almost non-existant on A.M. shift. No help available when needed. Management pushes their responsibilities off on associates in conflict with corp theft prevention policies.

    Advice to Management

    Hire new/more managers. Follow policies.

    Pros

Great money potential in airports if they have a good concept and location.

    Cons

Sketchy upper management. That doesnt seem to care about its employees, only the bottom line.

    Advice to Management

Take care of your servers they are the face of your company.

I worked at HMSHost (Less than a year)

    Pros

Depending on where you are stationed, if it's in an Airport the flow of traffic is strong and lot's of money to be made.

    Cons

Run like McDonald's. As a bartender, it's like bartending at McDonald's. Ridiculous corporate nonsense from 17 levels up, decision-making, etc.

    Advice to Management

Don't run your organization like a fast-food restaurant. Let the managers that are on site make decisions that they know are best because they operate that space day-to-day.
