I have been working at HMT Associates full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Open, fun and young office environment
    - Small agency feel with the ability to make an impact on the business
    - Nurturing environment for recent college grads, opportunities to grow as a young professional
    - Lots of training opportunities and industry seminars to stay on top of industry trends
    - Opportunity to grow within the agency (seen ACs promoted to AE, AEs to Account Director/Supervisor
    - Office location is suburban, making the commute less complex

    Cons

    - hours are not very flexible. would like more opportunity to work from home
    - lots of internal processes are in place. Though I understand why this is the case, it sometimes make tasks tougher to complete
    - Lots of client calls, but not a lot of opportunity for in-person client interaction

    Advice to Management

    - Keep pushing your ACs and AEs to take on more responsibility. Let them take risks and grow professionally
    - Keep growing your client base, implement a rotational program to give account team opportunities to work on different clients

I worked at HMT Associates full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Management is very supportive and is always open to thoughts/suggestions/improvements
Lots of growth opportunity, I started as an Account Coordinator and worked my way up to Senior Account Executive in 4 years
Work hard/play hard atmosphere. There are always activities & events going on (lunches, team outings etc.)

    Cons

There is a lot of structure and processes that can get overwhelming
Desks are situated pretty close to one another so there is a lack of privacy at times

I worked at HMT Associates full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Clean office, fresh coat of paint on the walls, the occasional free beer (you'll need it). Free coffee, electricity, running water.

    Cons

All staff is micromanaged to death and nobody is trusted. Often times employees will have 3+ bosses. You will be overworked and taken advantage of. I was consistently undermined and second-guessed. It's exhausting. They specialize in remedial level executions and there is shady management with zero transparency. It's an uncomfortable work environment with a culture that does not value talent or its employees, period. High turnover. Offers one day for bereavement. Half hour lunch. Very few clients providing the bulk of their revenue - unsustainable business model. Outdated practices with no signs of evolving.

    Advice to Management

Respect your employees and get with the times. Stop being threatened by intelligence and talent. Enough with the nepotism. Resistance to change will be your downfall.

    Team work is top priority
Growing advertising agency with loyal clients and lots of new business opportunities
    Flexible environment
Salary and time-off policies are on par with industry standards

    Cons

Some of the top client service and creative leadership is not located in the Cleveland office
Lots of internal procedures and standards that take time getting used to

    "Career Suicide"

    Doesn't Recommend

    Pros

There really is none that come to mind besides free coffee, a decent office chair and an occasional free lunch.

    Cons

    - Salary well below national averages.

    - Little or no career advancement opportunity or promotions from within.

    - They want you to be a robotic entity within their framework an will not be receptive to any ideas or suggestions even insights from a person that worked for a direct competitor of theirs.

    - Micro managed at every level.

    - Creative critique comes from every person not involved and not trained in the creative process.

    - Countless revisions in "guessing of what the client wants" instead of guiding them and selling the idea.

    - You hire people to be creative, let them do what they are hired to do without the constant questioning of their decisions.

    - Too much upper level management that are clueless of how to run an agency.

    - Basically have 1 client... that's it. That client pulls the plug after their yearly review... Bye bye HMT.

    - Will never retain any quality senior level talent on the creative side once they discover what a joke the place is as an agency.

    - Ridiculous timelines given to creative team to produce work. No time to think about a possible creative solution and god forbid actually brain storm an idea to come up with a killer creative idea. Basically get a job order and react to it as quickly as you can to produce mediocre work at best.

    - Plan on hiring an attorney if you want to display any pieces of work that you may find decent enough for a portfolio piece as you will get a cease and desist letter.

    Advice to Management

Let the creative team create, trust their ability and knowledge and teach your account people to actually sell an idea instead of being glorified, robotic, order taking waitresses to your client/ Teach them how to guide a client and sell good creative ideas.

    "Worst Place ever to work"

    Pros

Not too many. I had an office where I could close my door.

    Cons

Senior Management has no clue on how to run an agency.
Does not listent to people who have years of experience on how to help run an agency.
    No sick days
No care in the world about work/life balance
Treats employees like the work in a sweat shop
    No respect for their employees
Micro- Managment is the worst there ever was. You had to turn in a to do list everyday for approvals.
Cannot talk to clients for almost 6 months before you go through HMT's "training" which is laughable.
At an offsite meeting they asked for questions to be written down and turned in at the end of the meeting and then the questions would be addressed after the management has had time to think about the answers.

    Advice to Management

When you hire people trust them to get the job done.
    Implement a better benefits package.
Get rid of some senior management- too top heavy.
Management needs to learn how to run an agency...not a McDonalds.
Good luck staying in business down the road!

I have been working at HMT Associates full-time

    Pros

Due to hmt's size and structure there is enormous opportunity to learn and grow in not only your specific career path, but learn about business management as well. It is a very entrepreneurial environment. The work hard, play hard culture is enjoyable along with the work-life balance they provide. Management values their team members and invests in their growth and development.

    Cons

Being a smaller agency there are a lot of priorities and, at times, conflicting ones which leaves people feeling pulled in different directions. Need to diversify client portfolio.

    Advice to Management

Keep investing in your team - it's the best resource/asset you have. Step back from day to day business needs to focus on company growth.

    Pros

A good short term position if your right out of college. Earn get some experience and then leave. It's not a place you'll want to stay at long term. Senior manager does a great Pee Wee Herman.

    Cons

No organization, a failure in marketing. A professional nightmare. Most of the employees are wet behind the ears recent graduates who don't know any better.

    Advice to Management

Trust your employees give them creative freedom. Don't hire your whole family to work there. They have no experience.

    Pros

You contract the best creatives on the planet, but ignore their talent and expertise. Pay quickly! Positive reviews fake

    Cons

Demeaning and bullying from talentless wads shouldn’t be tolerated. It is here. Run and look elsewhere! HMT is cancerous.

    Advice to Management

Micromanaging is common & cancerous acct bullies are, too. Eliminate them. Change is hard, but needed. Trust the right people.
