I have been working at HNI full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

If you are new then its an ok place to work. Any time they implement pay increases generally it only affects the new members.

    Cons

Inconsistent work, HR is never around and hardly willing to help members when they are here. Hires anyone that is breathing. Make more per hour working fast food.

    Advice to Management

Allow more growth from within, increase pay and be more willing to help members.

    Pros

Growth opportunities, centralized manufacturing facilities in Iowa

    Cons

Managers and partners are out for #1. No respect for fellow members and their abilities. People are always out to make others look bad.

    Advice to Management

show some consideration to your members. Don't be a "power-over" leader. Morale is low for a reason.

I have been working at HNI full-time

    Pros

Strong company drive, performance driven. Good RCI process that focuses on change. Good financial performance. Strong supply chain tactics which blend manufacturing practices to the transportation of products to customers. Strong customer focus.

    Cons

Outdated management practices focused on tactical thinking. Very little strategic focus from leadership, even during strategic meetings. No significant change management approach other than RCI. Senior leaders have been in the company to long that they are blinded to best practices at other companies more advanced. Leaders are also resistant to new approaches.

    Advice to Management

1.) Listen to the new people that are coming into the company.
2.) Train, support and encourage the current managers and directors to open up to new approaches.
3.) Build a culture of innovation around product development. Think outside of files and office furniture

I worked at HNI (More than a year)

    Pros

They might be making trendy furniture for the up and coming offices and established ones, but this company is rooted in the past. Crap pay for expectation of 45+ hrs minimum.

If you can stick it out - promotions will qualify you for higher pay, but even then you'll be stuck in Muscatine working alongside a company with a fake culture.

The facade is strong but once you see through it - you'll see the wizard behind the curtain and will be extremely disappointed.

    Cons

Lack of knowledgeable management in tech area.

If you're going into be a web developer or similar. You will be towards the top when it comes to tech knowledge.

    Advice to Management

    Get training in technology.

    Pros

Benefits are ok. Shift is ok.

    Cons

Pay is low, management poor, co-workers are cry babies, HR is a joke. Building is hot and dirty.

    Advice to Management

Expand pay range to hourlys. Wide range between hourly pay and group lead pay

I have been working at HNI full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Difficult to get fired even if you are incompetent.

    Cons

You will be mired down in endless meetings where a decision is never made only to have the CIO blindly throw money at companies that almost guarantee failure through their inability to execute.

    Advice to Management

Stop throwing all the money at outside contractors who don't have a vested interest in the corporation. Their only interest is extracting more money. It's like despair.com says, "If you're not a part of the solution, there is good money to be made in prolonging the problem."

I have been working at HNI full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Pretty good people to work with. Was a good place to work 10 years ago

    Cons

Management needs to step it up. Many projects are started and never finished or rushed and end up inadequate. They will hire anyone, half the new employees cant speak English which makes training and communicating difficult. Limited advancement without a degree.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the floor members more, just because we don't have a fancy degree doesn't mean our ideas for improvement are bad. Follow through with RCI events to make sure they actually work and accomplish the goal.

I have been working at HNI full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good benefits and salary and opportunity to move around the company.

    Cons

People will step on you on their way to the top; take credit for your work. You can get far if you are willing to suck up and work a ton of over time. It is a "good ol' boys club". Way to many chiefs. New grads get treated better than long time employees.
