I worked at HOERBIGER full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Most of the people were very nice. The manager in charge of most of the shop floor is very good with people. Has good flexibility with hours.

    Cons

Low wages. No room for growth. No raises for many employees for years. Low employee morale. Upper management seems to be out of touch. Group leader in charge of the harness department is a tyrant, talks down to people regularly, and shows little respect to anyone. Everyone seems to know it and nothing is done about it.

    Advice to Management

The temporary employee situation doesn't work. Hire people in instead of temps and raise wages some and you'll have good people that will stick around longer. Take care of problem employees that think they are above everyone and cause issues with others.

I worked at HOERBIGER full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I met some very nice people that I still remain friends with.

    Cons

European (German/Austrian) management mindset. They spend more time posturing for positions internally than adding value to the customer. Hoerbiger has become renown in the U.S. as a company to avoid working for, just ask around. Very high attrition at Hoerbiger.

    Advice to Management

Expand the gene pool that you draw your managers from. The only positives that came out of Canada and Austria were Celine Dion and Arnold Schwarzenegger. And they both fled to the U.S.

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

Fair pay and benefits for industry

    Cons

Not sure where these reviews are coming from. This site is a hostile working environment. No support. Constant changes without any structure or problem resolution. Non present management support. No sense of compassion for employees or families. Those loyal employees with high work ethic taken advantage of. Those in authority allowed to discriminate and speak inappropriate

    Advice to Management

    It wouldn't matter

    Pros

Family orientated, great starting place for many Engineers, very hands on. Everyone has the opportunity to grow and learn something different.

    Cons

Cross training is a bit unorganized. Every one wants to be the " Top Dawg" hard to take direction when it changes from person to person constantly, and they Manager contradict the other.

    Advice to Management

When asking employees to do a survey, listen to what they actually say back. Don't be afraid to speak up and step on some toes. It was ours for 14 years.... KEEP IT.

I have been working at HOERBIGER full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great place to learn basic machining skills on some fairly new equipment. Wide range of equipment to learn on. Good benefits with a fair bit of paid time off.

    Cons

Lower end of the pay scale for machine work and paid time off doesn't come close to making it even. Management is EXTREMELY poor. Two months ago the only knowledgeable supervisor and a couple of the best machinists were laid off (fired). The official reason was due to business conditions but the real reason is because they were competent and posed a threat to the in-group currently dominating the shop floor. This in-group lacks any sort of professionalism or integrity and have nobody to answer to but themselves and a naive executive from Austria so there's no end in sight. If you're part of that group or barely adequate at your job then you're golden.

The market for natural gas is terrible and the company has no plans to diversify. Their only plans are to install automatic machinery to replace the people on the shop floor. And they plan on doing this after having let go of just about everyone that's capable of getting things set up correctly.

    Advice to Management

Stop assuming that people in south Florida share the honor and integrity that you find in central Europe, they don't. Your middle management is the worst I have seen in 20+ years as a working adult.
