I worked at HSN full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great employee store with fantastic discounts. Frequent promotional items. Occasional free food

    Cons

Job was fairly verbally absuive from customers. Jobs working anywhere near celebrities and tv were given only to those that were very good looking

    Advice to Management

Honestly a way to unwind or some breathing exercises may go a long way with people who are being yelled at all day. Check out Google

    Advice to Management

Put yourself in your employees shoes when issuing policies and procedures from your lofty perch. Micro management never has a positive outcome.

I have been working at HSN full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Nice people. Get your work done, and no one says anything to you about hours or what you're doing at your desk.

    Cons

Managers who don't actually manage. No reason given for why we work on some things. No room to grow with tech training, always told no. Salary for technology only average compared to most other companies in the area. Only get maybe 3% every year. People stay for too long who clearly don't want to be there or help others, but company doesn't take action to let them go. Outdated equipment, only some people can get new stuff to do their jobs.

    Advice to Management

Hold managers to actually managing people, rather than all talk, no action. Get fresh faces in the department and let people grow into real roles.

I worked at HSN part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Great employee discount. Great energy.

    Cons

VERY numbers driven. Must meet all Standards such as less than 2.5 mins/call. You absolutely must Upsell or suggested sales. Also customers MUST buy Upsells

    Advice to Management

In general a great company to work for.

I worked at HSN (More than 3 years)

    Pros

HSN Is a very fast pace environment and is a great place to learn merchandising. There is a lot of opportunity to move to different divisions and learn new categories.

    Cons

The culture and the work hours are the biggest cons. There is no work/life balance and you can get burnt out very quickly.

I worked at HSN (Less than a year)

    Pros

    great insurance
    employee discounts
job shadow opportunities if working on campus

    Cons

    not flexible hours
very little recognition for good work
not good communication between management and staff, especially when it comes to unique issues
my supervisor always seemed to have the day off

    Advice to Management

Promote supervisors who are willing to be a resource to their staff.
Allow WAH employees some opportunities for advancement, or opportunities to learn other skills other than just answering calls.
Reward employees for "exceeding expectations" in KPIs.

I have been working at HSN part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Work from home, lots of vacation and personal time, flexibility, decent pay, overall positive atmosphere, and the employee discount is substantial

    Cons

There's not much room for advancement, most people have to start out working evenings and weekends, not much room for getting weekends off as part of a normal schedule

    Advice to Management

My advice would be to create more probity for advancement for the work at home team. Transition some of the in-house jobs to at-hone positions. Also, give more opportunity for long time employees to be rewarded with a better schedule.

I have been working at HSN full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Community outreach is fantastic. Most jobs are challenging and the environment is dynamic. It's one of the only e-retailers in the south.

    Cons

HSN used to be progressive but leadership now going backwards especially in regards to people leadership. Increases are stagnant and pay is consistently far below market averages all the while medical benefit costs increases dramatically every year. There is no tuition reimbursement and very little to no professional education or training, The company only rewards those at Director level and above (which are way too many) and management is not held accountable as the blame teams. Bad management is grossly tolerated.

    Advice to Management

Invest in your employees - and not just your "leaders".
