I worked at HUB International full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great 401K and Benefits. They match HSA contributions and family benefits plan out of pocket was less than 200 a month in 2011 with 4K deductible. Management for the most part is in tune with staff. If you are part of an acquisition they take care of you.

    Cons

Some staff turnover. This is typical of a large agency that purchases other agencies.

    Advice to Management

    Great place to work!

I worked at HUB International full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Friendships, Going to lunch, Going home when the day is over, covered parking, long weekends & anytime away from the office.

    Cons

Poor & dishonest leadership, high stress, low wages, torturous workload, abusive, 2% raises or none at all, too favoritism & nepotism.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of all the local leaders & managers. They have no understanding of the day to day desk level operations. Regional leaders & managers are dishonest. Producers are greedy, demanding & cold. They would sell insurance to a cockroach if it would buy it. They promote those who lack knowledge & are worthless, instead of those who are truly hardworking. Staff experience repetitive abuse, being overworked & underpaid. Company rakes in record profits, breaking the backs of exhausted staff. Turnover is at a record high at over 15 people in 6 months. If staff are paid & treated well, with realistic workloads there is no reason to leave.

I have been working at HUB International full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Different locations to work from, free parking, co-worker friendships, good insurance companies, nice clients, no micromanaging, fun annual holiday party.

    Cons

Clueless, unprofessional leadership. Leaders do not know how to lead, they don't know what they're doing. Poor staffing for the insane workload. Low morale due to constant increases in work without salary increases & more help. Terrible bonuses. Too much favoritism.

    Advice to Management

Take care of your staff & stop ignoring them. Pay hardworking staff and they will take care of your clients. They treat clients as you treat them! Stop adding more work and unnecessary projects. Be honest & be fair. Stop ignoring staff requests for fair compensation because they know what's going on. Treat all staff equally. Make balanced workloads & teams. Stop the favoritism. Stop managers from socializing with their subordinates.

I worked at HUB International (More than 3 years)

    Pros

One of the largest brokers in the country, great access to markets and great relationships with the carriers

    Cons

There is disconnect between the corporate offices and the branch offices. There is not a steady marketing plan for moving forward and obtaining business.

    Advice to Management

build a stronger brand that focuses on the business that HUB international wants to write bring in experts in those industries.

I have been working at HUB International full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Hub offers a friendly place to learn and grow. They provide avenues to exceed and advance with support staff and supervisors who want you to be successful. The work atmosphere has been a place of enjoyment but challenges me to push myself in areas I didn't think would be a good fit.

    Cons

So far I haven't seen very many cons to this company. The transition to HUB had a few hiccups and communication gaps, but people seem to be willing to step in and try to resolve things as soon as possible once addressed.

    Advice to Management

Keep communication open, more details the better. Also make your staff feel appreciated. Recognize when people are going above and beyond. Slow down and get to know your team.

    Advice to Management

Leadership should focus on not micromanaging but how they can help create better opportunities to succeed

I worked at HUB International full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Initial compensation was good for my position.

    Cons

The team I worked with was horrible and threw everyone under the bus constantly. If someone made a mistake they let them go instead of allowing that person to work through any issues and find a common ground. Temps, Admins, Full-time associates, didn't matter. If you messed up or they didn't like you, you were gone. Technology was beyond out dated as almost everyone still worked on desktop computers! and the laptops were 10 years old easily. Office culture was terrible, very quiet and most people keep to themselves and seem like they can't wait to get out of there.

    Advice to Management

You need to get with the times, hire some younger talent and get up to date with your technology. There are local brokers that can run circles around you in this area. For new employees coming on board come up with a training program that makes sense and gives someone the chance to prove themselves. Managers needs to hold senior level associates accountable for their actions and training.

I have been working at HUB International full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great management with lots of coaching if you seek it out. They will not seek it out they want people who are driven and ask how to improve. Flexible working hours and opportunity for growth

    Cons

Not very good benefits or pension, fast moving with lots of changes all the time and lack of communication between departments.

    Advice to Management

Improve communication so everyone is on the same page and improve benefits/pension to attract better staff so less turnover of entry level team
