I worked at Habitat for Humanity as an intern (More than a year)

    Pros

I get to help people, deal with customers. I also learned responsibility and organization. I learn managerial skills from a worker's standpoint.

    Cons

Too many volunteers. Many of the employees there (including me) have temporary positions. No permanent jobs available.

    Advice to Management

If I do well and work hard I should be rewarded. There should be new tasks and ideas. There should be new contributions, team opportunities, etc.

I worked at Habitat for Humanity part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Ability to work independently. Great volunteers to work alongside and diversity in the job tasks and those you work alongside. People who work here, genuinely want to be here and help others. Good work environment overall.

    Cons

Not always as much direction or oversight, since so many are volunteers. Board and volunteer constantly changing with causes struggle with continuity. Working with homeowners and clientele that can be less than responsible or dependable at times, making certain aspects of the job a challenge.

    Advice to Management

Have a long term Executive Director and office support staff. Provide sufficient pay to have a quality Construction Manager, and do all you can to maintain them for the long haul.
