I have been working at Habitat for Humanity (Less than a year)

    Pros

learn skills that might not learn elsewhere involving construction of houses, great mentors and teachers for skills you might not already possess, fun working environment

    Cons

physically requiring depending on the day of the build, find out what your build day is to know if you can handle the physical requirements of the day. otherwise you will be left with cleaning duties (if you're okay with that this is still awesome in regards to meeting new people and helping out the community and people in need)

I have been working at Habitat for Humanity full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I've worked with some of the most talented, capable people in my career at Habitat. Habitat is great at being strengths focused with their employees and giving good opportunities to grow and develop staff.

Habitat's mission is so worthy and incredibly challenge to implement in the Bay Area. It takes a dedicated, talented group of professionals to do this well. I am incredibly impressed by the developments Habitat has produced in the Bay area. This is some of the most challenging, worthy work I have ever done. I'm incredibly proud of the work I get to accomplish with Habitat's team. Habitat also has great benefits and cola/performance increases most years. This is huge and very different from other places I've worked.

    Cons

Frankly the cons are all pretty aligned with the general non-profit plight. Staff turn over is tough. Competing for skilled talent and training staff is hard.

    Advice to Management

Put together some standards for management of each department. Dependent on who your boss is in the C suite seems to make a big impact on what your experience looks like.
