    Great mission but muddy leadership

    Pros

Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity has a great mission - building homes for low-income families. It motivates people to participate and feels good when you get results.

    Cons

Like many non-profits, there is not enough bandwidth to get the job done. People are underpaid but accept the work because of the mission. Leadership provides little in the way of getting employees to work outside their cubicle, so too many silos are created.

    Good People Good Cause

    Pros

Working with great group of people that believe in the mission of Habitat for Humanity. Interesting retail environment at the ReStore locations always a good challenge because all the inventory is from donations.

    Cons

The biggest con working is that most employment opportunities are part time and the money is not great. That is the trade off working for a non-profit charity. You can feel good about what you are doing but it is a lean operation. The revenue generated is to go to the Habitat mission not to salaries and frills.

I met wonderful men and women in the New Orleans area. We worked together to rebuild homes for Hurricane Katrina families. Habitat for Humanity provided a friendly work environment.

    Cons

I wish that Habitat for Humanity would have provided some was for the volunteers.

    Pros

The Pros of working with Habitat for Humanity is that in most areas of the country they are building homes helping less fortunate people. And assisting families with housing repairs and so forth that generally couldn't afford it.

    Cons

No International Support to local areas, Board of Directors will not step in to challenge the directors when they are making poor decisions

    Pros

Habitat for Humanity is a Christian nonprofit organization that helps people around the world to acquire their houses. Individuals need to put time and effort building their own property. Learning not only the value of money, also learning about hard work and dedication. The opportunities are endless and rewarding since you will be part of an unique organization that give hope to many people around the world. It’s feels great to help others in need!

    Cons

In my case the management team was changing constantly not providing stability to my position which is not the best case is your looking to progress in your career. Since volunteering is the backbone of the jobs are the organization; if we done have enough individuals helping.... the work will be hard, and sometimes impossible to accomplish.

    Great Work, Absolutely NO GROWTH

Dec 1, 2015 - Anonymous Employee in Renton, WA

    Pros

Habitat for Humanity has great people working for the organization. It is one of the happiest offices, everyone is friendly to each other. They have a Starbucks coffee maker and are a top Habitat affiliate.

    Cons

Interdepartment communication is HORRIBLE. Big things will be happening in one department and other departments will have no idea about it even though it effects the whole organization. Growth is impossible, this affiliate refuses to hire within the organization. I have seen 3 jobs open up in one year. Qualified employees working at Habitat applied to try to work their way up, and they didn't even get interviewed for the position. If you want to do good work for a couple years, this is the place for you. If you want to thrive and grow in your work setting, good luck having that happen here

    Mixed feelings

    Aug 3, 2014 - Anonymous Employee

    Business Outlook

    Pros

In general Habitat for Humanity International employees good people who care about the mission and are focused on engaging on the right partners.

    Cons

Senior Management is an issue. They are more concerned about their own individual agendas and how they feel they can achieve the mission rather than uniting so that they accomplish this as a team.
