I worked at Hach Company full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Strong leadership
    Established customer base
    Fairly organized
    Valuable metrics

    Cons

Product quality was not always good.
Worker culture feared negative metrics and some might cheat to show positive metrics.

    Advice to Management

Tackle "us vs them" attitude to gain true followership of reports.
Pick goals and metrics carefully and see them through to the end.

I worked at Hach Company full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I enjoyed working for a company that was helping the world's water quailty.

    Cons

Old school business practices. Very poor management. Benefits were just ok. Not focused on their employees. Low employee morale.

    Advice to Management

They need to put people in management that are good at motivating their employees, not just because it's the next step for someone to climb the corporate ladder. My manager didn't have one day of experience or the knowledge on how to lead a team. Stop managing in a dictatorship style and more in a motivational style and your employees will feel more compelled to work hard and will enjoy their job.

I worked at Hach Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You'll learn a lot if you apply yourself. Cafeteria. Very safe. Decent pay.

    Cons

It's tough to hit your numbers at first, but the jobs a breeze afterwards. The down time can be aggravating. If anything happens during the manufacturing or delivery of the parts your line is shut down and you'll end up having to work to make up the difference.

    Advice to Management

Build up a bigger stock of parts from fab so people don't have to rush.

I worked at Hach Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Maybe the paycheck, but you're selling your soul for it.

    Cons

What Hach calls Process the rest of Corporate America would call Gross Mismanagement. Fail Fast due to lack of planning and clear vision while iterating thru fixes Is Not Process!

If you enjoy doing your work over and over because the requirements are never properly framed by your leader the 1st, 2nd, 3rd... time, you'd love it here.

If you enjoy having your hair set on fire regularly because your leader decided to make a material change over night with effectively zero detailed planning, you'd love it here.

If you think every "leadership" request should be a drop everything and make it happen fire-drill, you'd love it here.

If you enjoy getting emailed on your days off and expected to respond to them, if you're lucky enough to even be able to take days off that is, you'd love it here.

If you think Work-Life balance is a ludicrous concept, you'd love it here.

If you are/were an employee in Sales/SalesOps and can relate to this post, Like it so those considering working at Hach are given fair warning before they accept their jobs.

    Advice to Management

Fire the SalesOps Mgmt team, the entire organization will thank you.

    Pros

Opportunity for new responsibilities enabling personal growth, stable, good manager. Products are meaningful.

    Cons

New president is too focused on managing up. Misses employee engagement opportunities where he could show appreciation to rank and file team members. Understaffed.

    Advice to Management

Focus less on promoting yourself and more on helping your team win.

I have been working at Hach Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great upside to comp plan. Solid benefits. Strong focus on internal growth. Boss lives in a different state.

    Cons

High turnover position because of constant managerial shifts in focus. Must dedicate time past 50 hours per week to truly be successful year over year. It's a marathon...

    Advice to Management

Constant change does not always equal continual improvement. Sometimes the best thing to do is to do nothing at all.

    Pros

In house manufacturing. Superior model shop. The ideas behind the Danaher Business System (execution is sub-par)

    Cons

No sustaining engineering, horrible cubicle area, lack of lab space. No gym.

    Advice to Management

Provide adequate resources for production engineering. Breakdown the barrier between PD (Policy Deployment) and non-PD decisions. Have a Kaizen on the product that keeps the lights on.

I have been working at Hach Company full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great opportunity to learn and grow

    Cons

Poor management team, each year they say it improves but the good people are still leaving like when I started. When John C and Tom J left leadership has not been the same, we have been on a downward spiral. The "numbers maybe good , but what is the cost? Short term performance virus long term growth.

    Advice to Management

Please stop treating us like children. Some of us are better educated than you are, we are not willing to sell our souls for a better title.
