I worked at Haigh's Chocolates full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The product is great and if you have a good manager the team and store environment is great

    Cons

Anything from area manager and above is questionable. They hire people who only want to be there for their job titles but not actually do the work. Lack of communication and support. You only know something is changing or happening when it's already put into effect.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your staff and value their opinion, change your ways; you are no longer a small business so think outside of the box and be more innovative.

    I worked at Haigh's Chocolates part-time

    Pros

Very regimented and role orientated training. Very well suited to school leavers. Very thorough.Chocolate to taste and a diverse range of people to interact with.

    Cons

Short hours. Roster changes almost daily. Extremely hierarchical management structure. Thats fine I suppose if you know what to expect. As a casual I had the manger who recruited me ( I think) then an assistant manager who was new, and then a manger came from another location ( over 4 weeks). I only had a few shifts per week ( short ones) no time to talk about things.

    Advice to Management

Your Chocolate is good. Your staffing experience wasn't right for me.

"Easy little bit of income but overall a waste of time"

I worked at Haigh's Chocolates as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Free to eat as much chocolate as one wishes. Staff discount was made available. The work was mindless and repetitive, but easy and the shifts went quickly. They did seem to have a good program in place for the recognition and praise of employees demonstrating company values.

    Cons

A seemingly unnecessarily long and involved (1 month) assessment and induction process for a period of employment that consisted of seven shifts spread over four weeks - highest amount of hours per week was 30 and least was 3. Cold, unfriendly attitudes from permanent staff in which any question seemed to be an inconvenience. None of us were made aware of when our final shift would be, or whether they were keeping any staff on, until about two hours prior to our last shift actually finishing.

    Advice to Management

I can maybe understand an induction period of that length for a permanent job, but for a casual job that expires in a month - ridiculous. It was an easy job and I wish we'd just skipped all the nonsense and been dropped straight into the work. I know it's not required, but also would've been nice to know prior to the day of when our employment was being terminated.

    Pros

Chocolate - allowed to eat, great discounts
    Great people to work with
    New products frequently
    Lots of variety

    Cons

Long trading hours - for a boutique retail store
Not enough staff to serve all the customers when busy - customers steal and not much we are able to do about it
Gift range not always geared to what the customers want, but what the company wants to sell

    Advice to Management

Is it more important to make money while spending less on wages, or reduce theft by maintaining appropriate staffing levels on shift?
