    I have been working at Halfaker and Associates full-time

    Pros

    True company-wide vision and belief in its mission, exceptionally smart/bright leadership that supports employees, opportunities for career growth, attentive IT support, top notch equipment/tools for employees, effective task management and processes, review processes for employees that translates well to show employee involvement/effectiveness

    Cons

    I've been working for Halfaker for almost a year and some could complain about the work/life balance/working long hours. I personally wouldn't consider this a con because I appreciate being gainfully employed and find it easy to work hard for something I believe in - as I do with Halfaker's mission

    Advice to Management

    Develop a company-wide training program to assist employees with certifications and continued education. Contract roles continue to evolve and require specialized certifications...this can only help in the long run as the company continues to grow

    Pros

    They really seem to care about employees; they hire smart, quality people for the most part; hardworking culture that will definitely take them places

    Cons

    High turnover at HQ, but not sure exactly why that is. It does get kind of annoying when your boss or director of HR changes every few months.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work! Lower turnover at HQ. Keep hiring smart people and working hard to retain them and you'll get there!

    I have been working at Halfaker and Associates full-time

    Pros

    The best fringe benefits in all of the National Capital Region hands down. Halfaker company parties and community service events are always enjoyable. They do a really nice job of recognizing employee accomplishments in their weekly news letter. There are several opportunities to receive bonuses such as candidate recruitment and outstanding performance.

    Cons

    My project does not have an on-site company supervisor to see the great work we are providing to our client. I feel that I am at a disadvantage to those who do. Especially when it comes time for performance review and annual compensation.

    I worked at Halfaker and Associates full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great support staff who genuinely care about their contractors/employees, listen to them, and support them; great pay; great events and parties; only hire exceptional people, which challenges you to grow as a professional; growing company with great future potential

    Cons

    Unless you're HQ staff, it's still contract work, so no guarantee of employment if your particular contract ends (but if you're terrific... they typically find a way to keep you)

    Advice to Management

    Continue to: listen to your employees; show them you care about them as people; keep them informed on contract and HQ big picture and how they fit into it; and keep hiring great people. So basically, keep doing exactly what you're doing! I'll really miss being part of such a great company.

    Pros

    -Great coworkers who work hard and play hard -Strong company culture and a focus on giving back to the community -Many events, parties, and service opportunities to meet with fellow coworkers -Great team of overhead employees ensuring everything runs smoothly -Very modern office with all the basics

    Cons

    -Employees working remotely or client-side don't get to experience Company culture -Hiring of employees that are not a good fit for the job or Company culture -No solid training/education reimbursement plan -Bouts of low morale and tension

    Advice to Management

    -Need to keep gauge of morale and how employees are feeling -Keep good talent from leaving and a more thorough interview process to prevent bad hires -Have a bigger focus on internal security trainings and systems

    Pros

    Numerous project teams, offering variety of work options. Nice location in Shirlington Village. Program Managers and Project Managers are really kind, generous, supportive, helpful, and hard-working people. Executives are also helpful and nice people. Company culture has a "keep it lean and mean, and get it done" attitude.

    Cons

    Some executives have a tendency to publicly yell at and/or otherwise berate lower-level personnel, negatively affecting morale. COO has been a "revolving-door" position, with three different COOs (and one interim) in the past 12 months. CEO has vision to evolve the company's structure, but has not clearly articulated a plan to achieve this. The company is growing larger but still controls spending like a very small company, sometimes being "penny-wise but pound-foolish".

    Advice to Management

    Keep building a culture of mutual trust, respect, hard work, and hard play! Praise in public and rebuke in private. Clearly articulate the plan for the company's future evolution, and if this isn't decided yet then say so bluntly and solicit feedback and ideas from your management team and employees - they care about the company and like working there, and want to help and be heard.

    Pros

    Halfaker provides its employees with the opportunity to grow by leaps and bounds. If you put in the time and effort you will definitely be rewarded. Halfaker's vision of Continuing to Serve resonates in all team members and fosters a culture of service not found in most places. The team participates in various community service events throughout the year and hosts lots of fun happy hours and an awesome holiday party at the Verizon Center. At Halfaker you're surrounded by some of the most dedicated and fun people in the industry.

    Cons

    Just remember to be flexible at all times and keep a positive attitude, and you'll be fine!

    Advice to Management

    Great people are attracted to your company! Consider implementing more non-traditional benefits.
