I have been working at Halifax Health Medical Center full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great teamwork and awesome coworkers. The atmosphere is good and everyone wants to help the patients feel better.

    Cons

The pay could be better. More bonuses, more ways to be more profitable and get raises often. People would stay.

    Advice to Management

Would love to have recertification paid for by hospital.

I worked at Halifax Health Medical Center full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Competitive pay, decent benefits except the health insurance. Great nurses, and fantastic for RN new grads. They always help each other and there is great teamwork.

    Cons

Very dated equipment (i.e., bedside tables that don't roll), sometimes short staffing, but they try to staff adequately. Schedules made 6 weeks in advance.

    Advice to Management

    Buy new bedside tables. Please.

    Pros

Will hire anyone, won’t punish you if you break contract, provides a lot of education for free.

    Cons

Nurse to patient ratio’s are terrible, pay is terrible, and management does not care about you and your opinions

I have been working at Halifax Health Medical Center full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The people I work with are some of the best I've ever met. Great, incredibly smart nurses who love their patients and work great as a team. Benefits are honestly pretty good.

    Cons

Not my direct management, but upper management. Administration tries to micromanage staff with 0 experience in a bedside position. Pay is insulting. Staffing ratios are incredibly unsafe (6-7:1 med/surg, 2-3:1 surgical/trauma ICU, 2-3:1 medical ICU). med/surg will work with a maximum of 4 CNAs if they are VERY lucky. Have experienced nights with only 1 CNA. Have worked shifts without a unit clerk or charge RN.

    Advice to Management

Hire more staff and pay them what they are worth.

I worked at Halifax Health Medical Center full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The friends that I made there. And that is about it.

    Cons

Where do I begin? This is the worst company that I have ever worked for. They do not care about their employees. Lowest pay in the county and they DONT give raises. Oh wait.. they give 2% which turns out to be a few cents. Never in all my life have I worked for such a disorganized and backwards company. Stay FAR away from this company. Don’t expect bonuses. The insurance is ridiculous. The worst insurance plan in the county and you’ll pay about half your check for it. Run run run run away from this chaotic mess of a place of employment. I couldn’t take it any more and had to leave, my new job pays double what I made here.

    Advice to Management

Upper managment: stop paying yourselfs over a half a million dollars a year and give some back to the hard working employees who run your business. You would be nothing without them. I pray for my friends who are still working there knowing they are struggling because you can barely pay enough to afford to live. YOU SHOULD
    BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES!

    Pros

Insurance is ok. Mother baby is god's place to work.

    Cons

They don't have any concern about nurse to patient ratios. You will most likely only last a year.

    Advice to Management

    Push to hire more employees
