I have been working at Halifax Health Medical Center full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great teamwork and awesome coworkers. The atmosphere is good and everyone wants to help the patients feel better.

    Cons

The pay could be better. More bonuses, more ways to be more profitable and get raises often. People would stay.

    Advice to Management

Would love to have recertification paid for by hospital.

I have been working at Halifax Health Medical Center full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Compared to hospitals nearby who pay a dollar or two more Halifax is much less corporate and is like working with a big family. Thats what keeps me there.

    Cons

Due to being a publix hospital nurses generally get paid less and Halifax does not turn down anyone due to financial, socioeconomic status or being a raging addict. this is a both a huge con due to some of the noncompliant addict patient you recieve but is also rewarding when you are able to help a geniune lower status person who would not get care elsewhere.

    Advice to Management

Some of the smaller units have the most amazing management ive seen, ratios, time off, bonuses, or just working with your needs. the bigger the unit the less this tends to be true in my opinion from a nursing standpoint.

I worked at Halifax Health Medical Center full-time

    Pros

It is a level 2 trauma center so if you are looking for something with high acuity this may be a pro to you.

    Cons

Worst pay in Volusia county. Probably the worst pay in all of Florida. You do not get raises, every year they do not make budget for raises. Poorly ran... supplies are an issue or getting help when you need it. You're usually maxed on your ratios for staffing. They got rid of almost all of the nursing educators to save money. Anyone unhappy is easily replaced with a new grad and the new grads are being trained by new grads, without a proper education or support. Orientees get a crash course orientation and they're thrown to the wolves. Staff morale is low.

    Advice to Management

Completely replace management, starting at the top.
