I worked at Halifax Health Medical Center full-time

    Pros

It is a level 2 trauma center so if you are looking for something with high acuity this may be a pro to you.

    Cons

Worst pay in Volusia county. Probably the worst pay in all of Florida. You do not get raises, every year they do not make budget for raises. Poorly ran... supplies are an issue or getting help when you need it. You're usually maxed on your ratios for staffing. They got rid of almost all of the nursing educators to save money. Anyone unhappy is easily replaced with a new grad and the new grads are being trained by new grads, without a proper education or support. Orientees get a crash course orientation and they're thrown to the wolves. Staff morale is low.

    Advice to Management

Completely replace management, starting at the top.

I have been working at Halifax Health Medical Center full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Nothing except the relationships I have formed with my coworkers. It’s pretty sad that I don’t have more to say, I’m really just trying to get the minimum word count required.

    Cons

Where do I begin? This company is a joke. They claim to offer competitive pay but don’t. For example there’s a five dollar difference between the position I have and the same position at another local hospital. Yeah. That’s competitive alright.
Their benefits are only beneficial to those who are single. For a husband and wife it is over 600 dollars a month for insurance. THIS COMPANY OWNS THE INSURANCE COMPANY. How is this a thing? No raises, no bonuses. But the higher ups make well over half a million dollars a year. It’s awful. When I say run. RUN.

    Advice to Management

Pay your people what they are worth and maybe your turnover rate won’t be so high. Respect your employees. Listen to them. Quit acting like everything is great when it’s not. You claim to listen and “hear” your employees but nothing has been done. And most importantly please stop lying to your employees about yearly merits and market values. Obviously that’s just higher management blowing smoke because I have yet to see anything.

I worked at Halifax Health Medical Center full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Staff is super friendly. Great teamwork in my department. They worked with my schedule well. Management was ok. Nice patients.

    Cons

Pay is low. No raises in 3yrs. No room for growth. No one in management takes responsibility for negative job aspects. Nothing ever changes.

    Pros

Great community involvement !No patient's are turned away because of inability to pay.

    Cons

Moving up the "corporate ladder" sometimes seems impossible.

I have been working at Halifax Health Medical Center full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The hospital is pretty. Most staff are nice.

    Cons

Poor orientation plan, experienced RN'S turned out fast. Younger RN'S have minimal specialty classes, differ preceptor all the time. No set standard. Doctors allowed to run the place. Most are nice, but you can get yelled at, treated poorly. No one cares

    Advice to Management

I don't plan to stay much longer. No respect for nurses here

I have been working at Halifax Health Medical Center full-time

    Pros

Some coworkers will work together and help each other out.

    Cons

The pay is below average. Middle management tries to care but upper management undermines them. Upper management does not care and they are getting rid of job positions left and right and leaving more work for those left behind to pick up. We were told that if we don't like it here to leave, there is plenty of people to take our place. But they are not coming.

    Advice to Management

Upper management does not care about its employees. I would say to take a look at what is going on and how the morale is so bad, but believe you know that and don't care.
