I have been working at Hall Booth Smith, P.C full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great place to work. Coworkers are very friendly, and genuinely care about your well being. People work hard, but are understanding that there is a life outside of work as well.

    Cons

Honestly, I cannot think of one.

I worked at Hall Booth Smith, P.C full-time

    Pros

Great experience, some wonderful people to work with, flexibility when it comes to needing time off of work.

    Cons

VERY low pay, not much room for growth, some attorneys are great to work with - others are hostile and rude, low retention rate (speaks volumes), no 2 employees are treated the same - favoritism and "who you know" play a big role in how you are treated.

    Advice to Management

The retention of employees is extremely low. The pay is much lower than the market average. If your staff is going to take the time to train new employees, try and keep them! A free lunch once a month is not going to keep someone from leaving.

HR is also not very welcoming or comfortable to be around. They are all very cold.

I worked at Hall Booth Smith, P.C full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Lots of opportunity to learn. Some partners are great to work with.

    Cons

Too much expansion that leads to low salaries. Too much oversell as a full service firm. It’s an insurance defense litigation firm.

    Advice to Management

Don’t pretend the firm is something that it’s not. It’s a litigation heavy insurance defense firms. Raise salaries so you can keep people. Stop opening offices. The expansion exacerbates mediocrity. The culture of making mediocre attorneys partner to increase their billing rate hurts your brand.

I worked at Hall Booth Smith, P.C full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    Free lunches. Bonuses given periodically.

    Cons

Everything. Hostile work environment. You have a target on you if you work hard or have an education. Office politics is cut throat and was there for the entertainment of some of the life failures.

    Advice to Management

Manage your subordinates and do not facilitate the petty politics in the office. Keeping your word about advancing is also a plus. No integrity in management equals no trust in management.

Human Resources may want to evaluate credintials and job requirements rather than some personal abstract subjective idea of who would best fit a job.

I have been working at Hall Booth Smith, P.C full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Consistent and positive reinforcement is a constant reminder of the support system within this firm. The relations among all employees promote a team effort for achieving goals. This is truly a firm where you are treated like family and given the trust, resources, and permission to create and build your own success story.

    Cons

With rapid expansion of the firm, the timeline to obtain the necessary resources is often delayed.

    Advice to Management

Continue positive reinforcement of all employees - happy workers - work happier :)

I have been working at Hall Booth Smith, P.C full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Management genuinely encourages employees to take an active role in the firm and its future. Associate attorneys are given leadership roles in important cases, and offered significant support in client and practice development. Name partners are actively involved in the firm.

    Cons

Technology is a work in progress, but management has taken steps to expand our options over the past year.

    Advice to Management

Continue to get feedback from the associate and staff liaison committees.

I have been working at Hall Booth Smith, P.C full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Interesting work and lots of it.

    Cons

Attorneys and HR have absolutely no interest in the support staff and how they are treated nor do they stand up for them. They are meaningless.

    Advice to Management

Practice what you preach in terms of all the "Whale Dones" (which rarely ever include a support person) and emails you send out asking for "real" comments from support staff. You could care less about us! Although I think Rush Smith is the exception.

Easy to obtain experience working with excellent partners.

    Cons

Similar hourly requirement as higher paying firms. No benefits for spouse or family.

I worked at Hall Booth Smith, P.C full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The Firm has created a very welcoming culture with leadership that does listen to their employees. The founding partners are actively involved and do lead by example.

    Cons

If you have one bad egg on your leadership team and can create a perception that all of your leaders behave this way. I have seen leadership (and attorneys) yelling at staff more than once with no repercussions. It is contrary to the strong culture John Hall and Alex Booth have created. I personally was yelled at and ordered to shut her office door but refused out of fear.

    Advice to Management

Serious consideration needs to be given to Firm Administration. This role should be held by someone with composure, a steady mind/body and a person who is open to listening and learning.

The firm is extremely pleasant and very good at events and thanking their employees for jobs well done. They are open to new ideas.
