    Advice to Management

Maintain HCP's strongest assets and differentiating elements, its people and culture, as the firm grows and avoid the temptation that many firms have to stray from this

      Pros

      - Managers truly care about the analysts and associates, will go out of their way to support analysts' and associates' career development, and take the time to get to know team members on a personal level. - Management has truly taken the initiative to update former systems and structures to improve processes and the working environment for all employees. - Open floor and open door policy truly fosters collaboration...

      Cons

      - Inflexibility of the analyst and associate term period - People at HCP can tend to be "too nice" and sometimes do not effectively provide negative feedback and address underperforming employees

I worked at Hall Capital Partners full-time for more than a year

      Pros

The physical office is truly impressive. I truly believe the people mean well. Feels like an extension of college, i.e. everyone is stressed out all the time without having a clue what they are doing. You can pretend you work in finance. HCP hires everyone as part of a large class (10+ people at a time), which seems great until you realize it means you are highly replaceable. Offers little perks such as...

      Cons

Work is purely administrative, absolutely zero analytical skills required, hence why they take people from all backgrounds. Building on the last one, you will spend a large portion of your day doing repetitive tasks such as filling out subscription documents for the same clients repeatedly. You will memorize the clients’ names and addresses. How’s that for a transferable skill? On the subject of transferable skills,...

      Advice to Management

None. They are complacent with their operations because there will always be people looking to move to San Francisco. Good for them, bad for you.

I worked at Hall Capital Partners full-time

      Pros

An amazing place to gain a generalist perspective on investing and real hands-on client facing experience. There's also a ton of opportunities if you have a specific interest and raise your hand. Senior management is especially receptive to feedback (when vocalized) and are truly invested in the people that walk through the door every day. The culture is fantastic. People here are incredibly smart, hardworking, and...

      Cons

      - Term structure can be difficult for analysts and associates that are slower to develop.

      Advice to Management

Keep innovating! Implement more formalization (especially when it comes to reporting) while still maintaining the "smaller firm" feel.

I have been working at Hall Capital Partners

      Pros

-Employees really care about each other and our clients -Underlying investment work is very thoughtful -Forward-thinking on issues of diversity -Incredibly collaborative & transparent culture

      Cons

-Slow to adopt technology to streamline processes and procedures / administrative tasks. It happens, it just takes time -The collaboration is great. However, this can delay implementation

      Advice to Management

The current reporting process could use an overhaul. Continue to focus on finding great investments and providing customized client solutions! The bread and butter of the HCP approach.

I worked at Hall Capital Partners full-time

      Pros

      - If you stick it out for the Analyst and Associate tenures, maybe an MD will write a business school letter of recommendation - Expensable dinners and ride shares every night that you stay late to work (see: 3 weeks out of each month) - You work almost exclusively with people right out of college or no more than 5 years out of college - You get to pretend that you work in finance to your friends, relatives, etc. ...

      Cons

      - Under-market pay. Actually, I don’t know if this role even exists at other companies, but let’s just say that calculating your hourly rate will make you cry - related to above, but work-life balance isn’t a thing. It’s cool at the beginning because you get to brag, but you realize that you were naive and what matters is your life outside of work, which no longer exists - the work is not stimulating in the least bit....

      Pros

There are nice people but not no one is truly happy to be there... Every one is looking for a way out

      Cons

Could not resonate more with the things mentioned in the "Overworked and underpaid" review. You learn nothing substantial at this firm about ANYTHING, are overworked doing the most menial tasks like saving down statements, making sure excel cells are aligned properly, and entering data... tasks that should (and are elsewhere) be automated. You legitimately lose brain cells working here. It is a waste of your time--...

      Advice to Management

Take advantage of technology... There is no reason your smart, motivated analysts need to be mindlessly saving down statements and recording data for hours on end and leave without knowing any applicable skill. They want to learn! They want substantive work! You have smart analysts from great schools with skills they want to develop. USE THEM.
