I worked at Halliburton full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Lots of training, fantastic benefits, supervisor recognition, overtime opportunities. Opportunities to learn in different areas of operations.

    Cons

Management makes promises they don't intend on keeping. Lack of transparency in management. Frugal raises, and easily skipped over.

    Advice to Management

Don't promise things you can't expect to fulfill on! Consider employees as whole people, who aren't dispensible.

I worked at Halliburton full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible schedule when not offshore. (15 days on, 6 days off).
Great training at the Fort Worth training center.

    Cons

Offshore life is a whole other lifestyle.
Hazardous work (explosives, radiation, Helicopter rides to most offshore rigs).
Work until the job is done, staying up 24 hours is normal.
Management does not like Field Engineers in the field, so it's difficult to move up into office positions.
Need to be on call for the 15 days, could go offshore at anytime.

    Advice to Management

Help you field personnel advance within the company, so they're not forced to quit and find other opportunities.

I have been working at Halliburton full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

A lot of very knowledgeable people work here, and most are very willing to share their knowledge and teach others. The immediate coworkers are also great - more "work friends" than just coworkers. Hal also provides plenty of training opportunities and networking within the company. Benefits are above decent, though they have been impacted by the recent downturn.

    Cons

There can be favoritism shown by some managers, which is very hard to fight. Halliburton is also all about "owning your career," which oftentimes results in little management support for helping employees identify areas of strengths and weaknesses and advancement opportunities. This wouldn't be an issue if management was willing to help the employee when they ask, rather than using it as justification to hold them back.

I have been working at Halliburton full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Large corporation with diverse teams and multitude of business products. Great facilities with amenities for employees. Visible leadership that is consistently engaged with employees.

    Cons

No work from home opportunities. Recent revaluation of job duties removed bonus potential for many middle managers, this is possibly changing in the future, but greatly impacted moral.
