I worked at Hallmark Labs full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - People (who genuinely care about each other and the work) - Flexibility - Opportunity for progression - Benefits & Perks - Location - Volunteer & community engagement opportunities - In-house and external training and certification (Education reimbursement) - Super generous maternity/paternity leave (plus a very family oriented team!) - Opportunity to significantly contribute to the future of Hallmark...

    Cons

Transitioning from startup to an integrated subsidiary of a massive company can slow down access to certain tech tools etc. Although, this is improving all the time.

    Advice to Management

Stay the course. Continue to listen to and implement employee recommendations. Consistently remind people of the awesome opportunity to be part of something really special.

I worked at Hallmark Labs full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good office space, friendly coworkers, free food and snacks, plenty of nice "perks" to get your in the door. Typical ‘hip’ corporate package: 401K, health insurance plans, ‘unlimited’ PTO, holiday parties, company outings/happy hours, some free catered lunches, mother’s room, maternity leave, flexible work from home policy. There is an aggressive Charm Campaign happening here, with tons of emphasis on Going Green &...

This is a Fake tech company controlled by middle America's middle managers. Don't accept an offer here unless you are willing to go through heartbreak. You are not working at the cutting edge thriving tech company Labs is trying to model itself to be- you are working at a failed experiment on its last legs. Hallmark Labs keeps recruiting for tech positions and has a major retention problem; departments are a revolving...

    Advice to Management

No Advice will affect how HR operates. Core staff rejects any critical feedback and will not address major issues, obvious flaws in planning, or misinformation from KC.

I have been working at Hallmark Labs full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The greatness: people, culture, workspace, snacks, benefits, work/life balance

    Cons

It’s so incredibly heartbreaking to see how Hallmark corporate is killing the soul of Hallmark Labs. Anything forward-thinking, delivering results, profitable, etc. has been shut down or transitioned to people in KC with no tech experience and track records of failure. Future-looking "innovative" projects are officially a running joke of the entire office.

    Advice to Management

Put on your big britches and stand up to the ridiculousness. We'd rather get laid off because you took a hard stance than because the efforts we were forced to work on tanked because they sucked & nobody was strong enough to say something.

I have been working at Hallmark Labs full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - VERY family friends - great maternity/paternity policy and flexible with work from home - Compensation and benefits are really good - 401k match - Stocked kitchen and lots of catered meals - Fun outings a few times a year. - Cell and fitness reimbursement - Lots of investment in tech and new technology right now

    Cons

    - Growing fast so it can be a bit stressful here and there. - Lots of things (and technologies) changing right now so it's sometimes a steep learning curve.

    Advice to Management

They should give developers individual opportunities to attend conferences at least once a year. Need to mentor employees closer about what they want to get to next and help them get there.

I have been working at Hallmark Labs full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Amazing company perks like flexible PTO, work from home opportunities, professional development via conference/workshops, great compensation and health insurance plans, etc. Fully-stocked kitchen. Many social or networking events like happy hours, women in tech, and even community service. Direction of company is becoming more clear, geared toward tech. Managers are hard working and passionate about their roles. A lot...

    Cons

The flip side of company direction becoming more clear is that there is more emphasis and attention on tech, and less on other departments that are also contributing a lot to the company. Core Staff do not take criticism very well, Q&A sessions feel more defensive and not as transparent as they make it out to be.

    Advice to Management

Lead by example. Accept and listen to constructive criticism. Don't take it as a personal attack, but opportunities for improvement. Be transparent with your teams. Cascade information to the office efficiently instead of cherry picking who knows what.

I have been working at Hallmark Labs full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good people working the non-management jobs Good financial support from the main office Good place for artists to work Spacious office with great views Free greeting cards Well stocked kitchen Fro-yo machine works once in a while Overall a team of good Developers, DevOps, DBAs and QAEs that all want to do a good job, but have their hands tied by management.

    Cons

Oversight from the main office has completely paralyzed the technology organization. They have not shipped a product for over 3 years, and the reasons for this are so bizarre it makes Dilbert look like a model of efficiency. Advice to Management

There really is no senior management at this company. All policies, product requirements, etc. come from the main office. The local CEO, while basically a competent administrator, is seen as an outsider by his underlings in the Engineering department (they wanted the former CTO to get the job), and they conspire against him at every turn. He seems to be aware of this, and has started "cleaning house", but he needs to...

    Cons

Non technical management Gossip mongering Bullying

    Advice to Management

Classic bully culture and toxic environment; Management won't listen to the people below them as to why projects won't take off, the meetings don't really lead anywhere and as a former engineer there, you can only care for so long before you give up.
