- "Halo is a growing company, and its leadership team has done well to balance growth and capacity." (in 1 reviews)
- Current Contractor, more than 1 year★★★★★
Pros
Truly a great work environment. The management really cares and tries to make things as easy as possible for everyone involved. The company regularly works to update best practices. The owner even sends out updates regularly about where the company is in the grand scheme of the industry and how he is working to make it even better. It is really a team atmosphere. Remote work is also a definite plus.
Cons
Not much... Any cons I can think of they are actively working to improve.

It’s nice to have income. Everything else could be done withiut

They pay when they say they will
Cons
Toxic work environment. The few people who actually do their job are relied upon to make up for everyone else who doesn’t. It person running it not the owner uses the place to hand out free paychecks and titles to their friends. Unqualified no experience people in title positions make the work inefficient and redundant

Horrible! Do not work here!
Mar 18, 2021 - Landman in Charleston, WVRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The only reason to work here is when no one else is hiring. Exhaust all options.
Cons
Every single person has either worked together in the past, married, dated, dating or related. Forget about getting any work done while in the office, people chatting everywhere. There’s always groups of people who come in to socialize and leave....usually with the boss to work out for 2 hours, and then never return. The manager and chick click also take mandatory 2 hour feeding frenzy lunches.

Yet another broker with a couple dozen friends and family members getting free pay checks while sending out subpar work
Jul 12, 2020 - Landman in Canton, OHRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
They pay when they say they will
Cons
Typical brokerage where dozens of incompetent friends and family members of the people at the top are given a title and a free pay check to "manage" spreadsheets, send a email or two a day and review work that they are incapable of doing and understanding themselves. This is a disservice to everyone, and reflects on the morale of everyone outside of the circle of incompetence and disproportionate compensation.

Love Halo and their team environment!
Cons
I have no complaints to add.

Pros
I have been working here 3 weeks short of a year and I have yet to come across an employee who isn't willing to answer any questions that I have. I was new to the Oil and Gas industry when I started and I learned on the job and didn't have to sit through any exhaustive training sessions. I get to set my own schedule and work from home occasionally. As long as I show proof that I am working and keep up with the responsibilities of my job, no one is looking over my shoulder watching everything that I do. If I do happen to fall behind on anything, management will ask what is going on and offer help instead of approaching me in a threatening way.
Cons
Must be self motivated. It can be hard from time to time when being able to work from home to stay on task and keep up with the duties I am expected to handle on a daily basis. Sometimes its an 8 hour work day, sometimes its longer, you work until you finish your tasks for the day. Sometimes I have to travel a lot in a week in order to handle the responsibilities that have been handed to me. Management was up front with me the day that I interviewed, it was not something that blindsided me after I started.

Pros
I was new to Oil & Gas and had pretty much no professional experience at all when I was hired. I have been with Halo for about 4 months now and I honestly enjoy going to work everyday. Everyone there is willing to help when you don't understand something and the company has very positive vibe. When I started there wasn't even a sign on the door and I've watched more and more people get hired on. It is a fast paced, growing company, and I'm excited to see it continue to advance in the coming years. Management is very hands off which I like. They aren't watching over your back or constantly checking up on you. They expect you to get work done but aren't afraid to help if you run into problems.
Cons
Space can get tight in the office and there are limited places to make phone calls

Great Company for Young Professionals
Feb 18, 2019 - Landman in Canton, OHRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The office culture is excellent. Everyone is very collegial and helpful. The owner and the rest of the leadership team are down-to-earth, friendly, and accessible. As a whole, Halo is young, nimble, intelligent, and hard-working. Contractors are permitted to have, and express, views or opinions on matters of personal concern and social issues. However, in my general experience, political discussions seem rare to nonexistent. Pay is competitive, and supervisors are open to requests for an increase when a Landaman demonstrates good performance. Contractors also receive a reimbursement for mileage. Because pay does not begin for 90 days after starting, it will continue for that same amount of time once the employee and employer part ways. Trainers are experienced and patient. The skills they teach to trainees also transfer to other professions. Help is available on challenging projects, and nobody will shame a new employee for asking. Halo provides ample opportunity to professional development and advancement, and they are always on the lookout for capable people. The leadership team does not micro-manage. Contractors are permitted to operate independently, and they are evaluated on the quality of their work product – not their skillfulness in bootlicking. Scheduling is flexible. Once a new contractor has completed training, she or he can keep time in the office to a relative minimum. One can work around appointments, dropping their kids off and picking them up, and a substantial portion of the work can be done from home. Halo is a growing company, and its leadership team has done well to balance growth and capacity. Work is steady and reliable, and there are also occasional opportunities to increase the number of billable days per week to make additional money. Contractors may also take on a second job as long as it does not interfere with the do-not-compete clause or diminish work product.
Cons
For the first 90 days, new contractors are not paid. Halo will provide an advance of approximately $1,500 per month for the first three months, which is later withheld from a new contractor's pay in months four, five, and six. Contractors are never quite know what they are getting paid for, and that is a BIG problem for a contract employee. Payments do not show a breakdown of what the total payment amount is supposed to represent. In theory, an one could check the billing statement she or he submitted, and make a calculation based on that. However, making this calculation is very tricky because pay lags behind billing by three months, the mileage reimbursement is included in the lump sum, and there is no commonly-known set number of days between when work is logged and when it is paid. Fringe benefits are nonexistent. There is no access to employer-funded health, dental, or eye insurance. Employees must also set aside their own savings for retirement, divert it to a qualifying account, and make the proper tax calculations. It goes without saying that there is no employer matching percentage for contributions. There is no access to social benefit programs like workers' compensation or unemployment benefits. If an employee gets hurt on the job, she or he must pay the medical bills. If the employer terminates the contract (which it can do with one-day notice even without a breach), there is no access to unemployment benefits because employees are actually independent contractors. Finally, the independent contractor relationship means that employment laws generally do not apply. The protections in the Fair Labor Standards Act, the Ohio Civil Rights Act, Federal Title VII Anti-discrimination legislation, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, and others do not cover independent contractors.

Pros
Solid team atmosphere, talented and experienced staff, the owner is very committed and engaged. It's a true contractor experience and the only goals are to get the work in on time and at or under budget. They stay true to their roots of solid title and leasing landmen.
Cons
90 days from your start to your first paycheck. They will pay out some money up front and work with you until your first paycheck comes in.

Pros
Have had the pleasure of working with Halo for almost a year. The management took me in under their wing and from day one I was made to feel like part of the team. Very professional, yet feels like family! Human resources make it a point to have frequent social gatherings to reinforce the camaraderie within the establishment. Company Founder Dustin Goldston is a top notch leader! The BEST!
Cons
I have no cons regarding this company.
