I worked at Hamleys full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    Free coffee tea and water.

    Cons

The whole ethos of the senior management is an embarrassment, to this famous department store. Vindictive school girl performers at front of store, are an utter embarrassment to someone trying to carve a career in the entertainment industry.

    Advice to Management

How long is a piece of string.

I worked at Hamleys part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Were the promises that became undelivered. Flagship store that disappointed. Total disregard for people just targets and targets! Support was not provided and training was unpaid.

    Cons

As a young person still in education I believed this would be an opportunity to gain experience in a fun environment and learn skills. Instead in 2018, zero hour contracts are being used as a stick to beat employees with by inadequate management teams. Effectively sacking staff by removing them from the rota. Basic employee health and safety is ignored. Six hour shifts with no breaks when demonstrating requires continuous...

    Advice to Management

Employment Law is being flouted regularly by supervisors and department managers suggesting that their training is inadequate or you have the wrong people in these positions.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are disappointed to read your feedback about your experience within our store. Hamleys have a pay structure for all employees which doesn't allow for 0 hour contracts perhaps you worked for one of our concession partners in Stores. ...

I have been working at Hamleys part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Some of the staff on the team are great guys and flying drones is fun. They are what keep you there past 5 minutes.

    Cons

This applies to RDM Creations. Where to begin. Pay is below minimum wage (despite owner bragging about £4mil + profit a year). Management is completely incompetent and makes grossly inappropriate sexual remarks in front of customers and to staff. Owner is a bully. Very aggressive, demoralising and quite frankly disgusting in the way in which he speaks to his staff. Completely target driven. Belittles staff...

    Advice to Management

Unless new management is brought in and the owner attends some anger management classes, then how RDM is allowed to operate is beyond me.

I have been working at Hamleys full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The shop is one of the most beautiful in the world. Furthermore the location (Carnaby Street) is delightful. The salary is not bad and if you hit target you can make good money. More than this, the staff discount is very generous and there are lots of benefits. If you are able to sell, they will praise you but, on the other end, if you have a bad week... they let you feel miserable.

    Cons

And now... the Cons: you MUST have talent for selling, patience, and sometimes are able to ignore the competition with your colleagues. Because hit the target nowadays is not easy: if you are able to do it often, well, you must to deal with lots of pressure. Sometimes supervisors and managers don't understand that we're human being and not slave-cyborg. If we have a bad week and the store is not doing good, you should...

I have been working at Hamleys

    Pros

Every staff member (below management) can relate and revel in the combined misery that is inflicted upon you on a daily basis

    Cons

It's just awful. Beyond awful. People genuinely go insane working here. It's like a lunatic asylum with staff members wandering around in some sort of beaten down fish wife that has lost all hope of ever finding happiness again. When you speak to staff, everyone and I mean everyone hates it. They hate turning up they hate being there and all they can think of is that first drink that will relieve the numbness and depression...

    Advice to Management

You are collectively jumped up sales assistants that are shallow and ridiculous enough to actually try and progress. You have no morals, talent or empathy for anything. Collectively you are terrible at your jobs and genuinely awful people that deserve nothing
