I have been working at Hamleys part-time for more than a year

    Pros

The discount if you are not based in London otherwise it brings it to a reasonable price

    Cons

The Management are terrible they pick sides and have favourites. If your not a favourite then good luck to you. Rude HR staff in store never willing to help Hours are awful, sometimes you can be doing a late shift to an early shift and have no rest. Lack of work life balance due to short notice with timesheets they are always changing and expected to adapt to the ever changing rota Progression rate is non existent...

I worked at Hamleys part-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Full training at Regent Street Store - Friendly Staff (not all management though) - Fun Environment - Get to play with toys on shop floor (demo) - Extra day off for Birthday

    Cons

At Heathrow each store is a little different because of management. - Requires you to be fake and extra friendly even if the customers are clearly not interested to be spoken to. - There are favourites. The management left the store with their favourites for short breaks and coffees leaving some by themselves with no help. Certain individuals get picked on constantly - this was the main reason myself and about 5...

    Advice to Management

    - Management was the main reason why myself and lots of other colleagues had left Hamleys, do not have favourites or your staff will more than likely listen less. - There should always be more than one member of staff in the store at all times, yes it may be 'quiet' in early and late hours and not many sales, however sometimes there is a rush of passengers at once, and one person cannot always attend to all at once,...

I worked at Hamleys part-time for more than a year

    Pros

My co-workers were such nice people and were always willing to help, I didn't meet one person who I thought was an a-hole. The toys are fun to play with and the customers are mostly nice and just happy to be there.

    Cons

There were a few extremely hot days which would have been bearable if there was suitable air conditioning, you have so many people on the ground floor and it's like a sauna. The pressure to approach customers can be draining especially when 8/10 people do not want any help whatsoever, you sometimes look like you don't have a job to do because you're wandering around with red bags asking people if you can help them. People...

    Advice to Management

The whole you can return anything you want no matter how long you had it issue is stupid and it caused a lot of problems. The customer is not always right. A lot of the big managers I see making sure that everything and everyone is doing right don't seem to give a flying crêpe about the employees and by the way get suitable air conditioning and fix the ice cream machine. XD And if someone is spending over £100 or maybe...

I worked at Hamleys part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Progression opportunities were achievable. Also, really laid back, fun atmosphere. Got paid to play with toys. Staff were happy and everyone worked well as a team. The training was a great laugh. Lots of games. Felt like a kids birthday party.

    Cons

Was working at a concession in a department store on the sixth floor, so there were a lot of quiet periods where I had to pace the floor and re arrange shelf displays in order to be doing something, which was pretty mind numbing. Also, my contract I was given had far fewer hours than I said I wanted. Was not allowed to change my contract, or swap with colleagues who wanted the number of hours I had.

I have been working at Hamleys part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

It is a great place to work with amazing people. Staff members are lovely and the management team is great. Meet people from all over the world and work with people from different backgrounds and cultures. Never had a retail job like Hamleys.

    Cons

Like majority if not all retail jobs, it can get tiring.

    Advice to Management

My management team was great and understood me, my advice would be the that all management teams should be like this and never take their staff for granted.

I worked at Hamleys part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Just the general culture is always fun, whether your working with or as any of the magicians or demonstrators everyone there is there to sell but to have fun whilst doing it.

    Cons

quite a low ceiling on progression up the company as a part timer. I with there was a part time supervisor position to grow further

    Advice to Management

Spend some time in the store and get the feel of the place at all times of the year. Understand the change in atmosphere between spring/autumn and xmas/summer holidays
