I worked at Hamleys full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

My teammates were nice and so were my supervisors for my team. I made some good friends and learnt a lot about how not to treat others from watching what was going on.

    Cons

Work life balance is non existent. If you have any personal/health issues they are not taken into consideration. You work long hours in a filthy building with no air con. Managers are sexist and don’t know how to approach giving feedback. There’s a lot of favouritism. There’s not much room for growth within the company. I’ve heard racist and sexist comments from managers. They treated us like children. You were made to...

    Advice to Management

Listen to your staff and customers. Don’t use your power for the wrong reasons. Help others to rise in the company not just because they are your friends or you’ve slept with them. Hire the right people. Don’t let the magic of Hamleys die completely, Mr Hamley himself would roll in his grave if he could see what’s happened to that store.

I have been working at Hamleys part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Some of the staff on the team are great guys and flying drones is fun. They are what keep you there past 5 minutes.

    Cons

This applies to RDM Creations. Where to begin. Pay is below minimum wage (despite owner bragging about £4mil + profit a year). Management is completely incompetent and makes grossly inappropriate sexual remarks in front of customers and to staff. Owner is a bully. Very aggressive, demoralising and quite frankly disgusting in the way in which he speaks to his staff. Completely target driven. Belittles staff...

    Advice to Management

Unless new management is brought in and the owner attends some anger management classes, then how RDM is allowed to operate is beyond me.

    I worked at Hamleys part-time

    Pros

Friendly and fun staff members. Theres always something to do because they shift you around in different areas of the departments. Customers are friendly too and you meet many of them coming from many different countries. Its a toy store so majority of the time you work to play basically!

    Cons

Long shift hours. Short breaks for only 30 minutes. A lot of standing up so it can be very very tiring. Sometimes it can be very chaotic due to the amount of customers coming in and then you have all the hamley's demonstrators taking up a lot of the store spaces for demonstrating the products.

I worked at Hamleys for less than a year

    Pros

you could be spontaneous, mingle with customers, really help along and have lots of fun while working

    Cons

Most of co-workers tried to do as little as possible , and if they were buddies with the team leader, they could get away with anything. Not enough time to chill and 11 hours shift on your feet isn't great.

    I worked at Hamleys

    Pros

There aren't any pros in this job....

    Cons

Don't work here unless you want to be treated as a child...The ridiculous induction lasted for 8 hours and involved us acting like 3 year old children, it was an embarrassing and humiliating experience. There is no air conditioning, the staff toilets are tiny and usually you have to wait in a cue when you need to use one of the urinals. The changing rooms are grubby. Some of the managers are very rude. The canteen...
