    I worked at Hamleys

    Pros

There aren't any pros in this job....

    Cons

Don't work here unless you want to be treated as a child...The ridiculous induction lasted for 8 hours and involved us acting like 3 year old children, it was an embarrassing and humiliating experience. There is no air conditioning, the staff toilets are tiny and usually you have to wait in a cue when you need to use one of the urinals. The changing rooms are grubby. Some of the managers are very rude. The canteen...

I worked at Hamleys full-time for more than a year

    Pros

The money was good if you work hard specially on Christmas time, you need to have a big high stress tolerance

    Cons

The environment around you is negative, and is very difficult to focus on your targets when you have this around you.

I have been working at Hamleys

    Pros

The job is pretty simple and you don't have to take work home with you. The view from the staff room on the roof and the 35% discount. That is all.

    Cons

Hamleys could be an enjoyable place to work if it were run properly, by professionals. Unfortunately the majority of management (on a shop floor level) really do not make it a pleasant atmosphere. Most supervisors and managers are promoted through having relatives/friends that help them move up. Managers' attitudes to staff are, in general, nothing but hostile. They spend most of their day actively seeking out things...

    Advice to Management

Train your management staff properly. If you want to improve sales, a happy working team is the key. Management that constantly belittle staff at the expense of their own promotion is not much encouragement.

I worked at Hamleys part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Energetic workplace. Massive store that always has something going on. Holiday periods are the busiest so your not really that bored on the shop floor. Mainly young workers there which makes the atmosphere lively. Great for energetic people looking for employment

    Cons

floor managers have you standing in one section. When the shop floor is empty it becomes boring. Your always expected to do something even if there's nothing to do. Could be seen as a repetitive job.

I have been working at Hamleys part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Fun environment a lot of nice people on shop floor, fun, lots of kids! Great colleagues, super nice: it can make you day! Nice green room where to have food and relax, free coffees and snack and great products! Lots of celebrity coming in and it is fun.

    Cons

To progress are mostly people who are by the book, the shop senior management management is crap and does not understand anything about staff motivation. Young managers are good, but is not enough to keep the staff happy. Low pay for the service employees are expected to deliver and the Head office's culture is even more highly politicised and fake! If you think you can propose ideas to Senior managers like they say in...

I worked at Hamleys part-time for more than a year

    Pros

It was a very fun place to work. My floor manager was fantastic. I liked that they shared their monthly bonus among all the staff if the store hit it's target.

    Cons

Some of the floor supervisors had zero engagement with the staff. Not very team orientated. Some were great. Customer service was never really taught.

    Advice to Management

In my 1 and a half years there, the store manager made zero attempts to engage or talk with staff, and might I say, many young people who worked very hard for the company. It's terrible to have a management system where the functional behavior is based on pure snobbery. There were also some great upper level managers, but the store manager was not a good representation of the ethics of the company.
