I worked at Hamleys full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

My teammates were nice and so were my supervisors for my team. I made some good friends and learnt a lot about how not to treat others from watching what was going on.

    Cons

Work life balance is non existent. If you have any personal/health issues they are not taken into consideration. You work long hours in a filthy building with no air con. Managers are sexist and don’t know how to approach giving feedback. There’s a lot of favouritism. There’s not much room for growth within the company. I’ve heard racist and sexist comments from managers. They...

    Advice to Management

Listen to your staff and customers. Don’t use your power for the wrong reasons. Help others to rise in the company not just because they are your friends or you’ve slept with them. Hire the right people. Don’t let the magic of Hamleys die completely, Mr Hamley himself would roll in his grave if he could see what’s happened to that store.

    I worked at Hamleys full-time

    Pros

    - The old-school lot are great. Many have now left, but there was a time when some people had enjoyed many years working at Hamleys.

    Cons

    - Imagine listening to the same 6 pop songs all day everyday. - Management has decided to treat people like cattle. - The great thing used to be that you could work in a TOY SHOP and therefore have fun, but all fun has been zapped out and this has had a negative effect on customer experience. - Everyone is paid as little as possible on zero-hour contracts. The Demonstrators get about 90p for every product sold...

    Advice to Management

Treat people how you would want to be treated. You only get one life, so instead of making people work themselves into exhaustion, give everyone a payrise and reduce the hours. Try and get people onto normal salary structures and provide company benefits beyond free use of a locker. I would advise the owners to sack the management team and start again with the philosophy of "a happy working environment will lead to...
