I have been working at Hammacher Schlemmer & Co. full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great work environment. Work attire is casual.

    Cons

Not a lot of room for growth and they are always understaffed in certain departments. This is because they are not willing to increase the budget of those departments, while other departments have so much staff, most of them have nothing to do all day.

    Advice to Management

More conversation around salary band and equally dividing the budget between departments for employees payroll.

    Pros

Good place for straight out of college to get some experience. If already experienced stay away.

    Cons

Nagging, too much documentation. Do not mistake the GM for CEO. It's the GM's way or else you are out. Department leads were asked to speak to their staff to leave positive Glassdoor reviews so the could hire.

    Advice to Management

Change with times before it's too late. Change GM!

I worked at Hammacher Schlemmer & Co. full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I worked at Hammacher Schlemmer for 4 years and thoroughly enjoyed my time there. They are employee owned which I found to be a huge positive with tremendous upside. I found the culture to be open, supportive and collaborative. They invested heavily in new technology during my tenure and have plans in place to continue to upgrade their infrastructure. I believe they have found their niche in the market and are aggressively adapting their sales and marketing strategies. I found my co-workers to be some of the nicest people you would ever want to work with.

    Cons

I don't have much negative to say, but even though they have invested heavily in their infrastructure recently, they need to continue these efforts.

    Advice to Management

Continue on the path that you are on and I believe you will continue to get great results. Over-communicate about the ESOP so all employees act more like owners in the company.
