High salary for the entry level people, particularly starting postdocs and technicians. High salary and long vacation time for senior technicians. high salary and a lot of free time for supporting staffs such as accountant, libarian, or other non-scientific staffs.
The finacial status of the institute is very shaky which is caused by the loss of previously steady contribution from the Chemical industries. However, there is no clear direction whatsoever from the top-heavy senior management group. The staffs are repeatedly told that the institute has made a significant transition, but the number just doesn't add up. Communicating with the senior management is very difficult, and always useless.
Advice to Management
Lay off the non-performing or supporting staffs. Let the capable people grow.
