I have been working at Hampshire College full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Surrounding area is pretty
There's a farm on campus where you can get a CSA
Some of the students are cool

    Cons

    Low pay
    Low morale
    Incompetent leadership

Here is our pay scale (not we didn't get a staff increase in 2015 and only got a 1% increase in 2016)

If you're looking at the jobs on their website and it lists the pay here is what the salary grades correspond to.

These are the minimums, most people start at the minimum:

    Grade 1 - $23,500
    Grade 2 - $24,500
    Grade 3 - $27,485
    Grade 4 - $28,470
    Grade 5 - $31,800
    Grade 6 - $37,158
    Grade 7 - $41,185
    Grade 8 - $54,268
    Grade 9 - $63,765
    Grade 10 - $72,149

They spent a lot of money on a consultant and say these are "market-rates" but everyone knows this is not true. However there are bunch in administration roles who make more than $100k, must be nice!

    Advice to Management

The people in charge (known as the Monday Group) have no idea what they're doing. We had a $2.6 million deficit this year.

I have been working at Hampshire College full-time

    Pros

Great colleagues. Some brilliant, motivated students. Location in western Massachusetts. Beautiful landscape. This is really all I have to offer.

    Cons

The college is under-resourced, relying mostly on tuition dollars. Many employees lack the resources or space to do their jobs. An environment in perpetual crisis mode. Salaries are low compared to the other Five Colleges.

    Pros

Pretty country setting, people mean well

    Cons

Many people who work there think it is an elite school, but the place is a mess and the student drug/alcohol situation is a real concern

    Advice to Management

Fix the place up, give students things to do, fix the academic program

    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at Hampshire College full-time

    Pros

The students are the real reason to want to work at Hampshire. They are (mostly) motivated learners, that contribute to a creative environment. Hampshire also has decent benefits, and is an idyllic setting (visually).

    Cons

A young tuition driven school, that does not have a lot of money to update facilities. It sometimes feels very disorganized here, and offices lack a connection to each other. A lot of trickle down.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Hampshire College full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Forward thinking community, solid benefits, energized community. Life in the area is great if you like the countryside/college town vibe. There have been lots of opportunities to be creative and explore and I've received a lot of trust from management.

    Cons

school is sometimes slow to define goals, as a large organization there are sometimes poor lines of communication.

    Advice to Management

move faster, take more risks, the school should lead by bold example
