No technology at all when it come to Police work. Way behind other local Departments.

They provide great training and stress officer safety tactics which is very important in this profession.

Cons

This is a tough job that takes split second decision making ability that changes lives forever. With that in mind don't second guess officers decisions from behind the comforts of your desk. The only way for you to get a new assignment outside of basic patrol takes for someone to retire or die.

Pros

Job security. As long as you show up and do the minimum they will keep you around. I don't subscribe to this myself but its apparent that many employees are aware.

Cons

The city is extremely poorly managed. Nepotism at its best. Resistant to change. "Because that's the way we've always done it", is recited daily by the leadership if you can call them that. No pay increases in over 7 years!

Pros

Great group of people to work with, I still feel a sense of camaraderie when I talk to current and former HPD officers.

Cons

Like most agencies, I think they can show favoritism towards certain people. It can be kind of discouraging to people who aren't in the "IN" crowd.
