    Pros

Easy work, easy people to work with, supervisors were understanding, the work was never difficult to understand.

    Cons

No body cared about the work they did. They only came in for their 8 hours and would leave. No pride in work.

    Pros

The only pros about this place is that it has a lot of talent. People have been here for 20 and 30 plus years and I don't see how they have positive attitudes. You can take your kids to ride bus, ferry or train for free.

    Cons

Money is garbage. Maintenance supervisors make 45,000 a year. Each check was about 1300 dollars. That's not enough to pay my mortgage! Heaven forbid you take their benefits package, the pay would be less than that! Too much work and reports for little pay.

    Advice to Management

Take care of your people!!!!!!! People will stay employed when they feel a challenge or when they are paid well. I felt neither. CEO doesn't know anyone by name. Have him come downstairs and say hi to someone every once in a while. Let the maintenance mechanics know they are appreciated!

I worked at Hampton Roads Transit full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There were very few pros. If you believe all the rave reviews posted on here, you're crazy! You can bet its HRT HR staff posting repeatedly to cover the absolute STENCH of this miserable place.

    Cons

I have never worked in a more hate filled environment. The Technology Department is a cesspit of incompetent, finger pointing, racially biased, crazies from the top down. And the 'top' takes the cake in the crazy category. Any professional IT people will be appalled by this place! STAY AWAY!

    Advice to Management

Smell the coffee! Open your eyes and face facts about why you have a revolving door in specific departments. You have one glaring problem!

I have been working at Hampton Roads Transit full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, but will probably not for much longer; Good pay in most positions; Loyal employees.

    Cons

Very set in their ways, unwilling to change, even if it's for the better. Policies are vague and set by each department manager instead of having set company policies which creates uneven treatment and rules among employees. Low employee morale, they do not care about you as a person or support you, only listen to what you have to say if you are in a management position. Loyal employees are not appreciated.

    Advice to Management

Change! Listen to your employees or go see what is actually happening in the lower levels, most of management is blind to what is actually happening below them. Care about and support your employees and they will give you their all.
