I worked at Hankins and Anderson Consulting Engineers full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very nice place to work. a lot of good people and good training available. Some amazing travel opportunities can come up. The projects can be challenging (in the best ways) and you can learn a lot.

    Cons

Most of the work was government, so the bureaucratic nature of working with the government, or any large company can be tough to deal with.

I worked at Hankins and Anderson Consulting Engineers full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The complete range of engineering disciplines, technical positions and project management required for their markets and projects offers a broad community of professionals with whom you can advance your career path and sharpen your occupational skills.

    Cons

The business model of Federal contracts (multi-client / multi-project markets) is limiting because as the Federal budget (ha ha) goes, so goes the business budget. Staffing has been up and down since 2014. Of course, they are not alone. Also, the work processes are very restricted compared to the private sector projects and firms.

    Advice to Management

I have none, Management seemed quite happy with themselves.

I worked at Hankins and Anderson Consulting Engineers full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Leading edge in the industry. Always leading the way with the latest design software. Great benefits. Many paid holidays. Summer Hours.

    Cons

CEO was over-ambitious and had nobody to rein him in. In 2012, EVERYBODY in the company was required to take 3 weeks furlough (time off without pay) in order to recover lost revenue. All benefits - including overtime pay - ceased. Great medical insurance turned to horrible insurance. 2nd round of layoffs and furloughs came in 2015. CEO needs to go.

    Advice to Management

Need to get rid of the CEO before he runs the company into the ground.

I have been working at Hankins and Anderson Consulting Engineers full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I’ve worked at multiple workplaces prior to joining H&A, and it is by far the best employer! Hankins and Anderson truly value their employees as their most valuable asset. The leadership is always open to employee feedback and willing to make improvements. There are regular meetings and discussions to provide transparency and ensure everyone is working towards the goals and objectives of the firm. There are many events that keep the workplace culture fun and enjoyable, while contributing our best to H&A.

    Cons

Not really any cons, other than the small break area. Most people sit at their desk for lunch if they don't eat out, which leads to never truly getting the full lunch break due to interruptions. There are some negative reviews of H&A, but from my experience working at other firms H&A does a fantastic job standing out from the rest. It's likely that those with negative reviews haven't worked at enough workplaces to see the difference.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the good work!

    Pros

Great firms to work for, extremely flexible in understanding work-life balance. The kind of projects are the best to be involved with in the building consulting engineering profession.

    Cons

Too much overhead associated with process, sometimes loses sight of the need to accommodate diversity between jobs and clients consulting engineering.

    Pros

    -The projects are interesting.
-The majority of employees are fun to work with.

    Cons

Given the recession, as well as poor investment choices, the company has suffered some set backs. As such cuts (in benefits etc.) were necessary. Upper management is disconnected from the rest of the company. Both have contributed to the overall low morale of employees.

    Advice to Management

Continue to diversify services, in addition to focusing on the strengths of services that the company provides. Eliminate unnecessary overhead positions, or refocus positions to actually provide a benefit to the design services which are being provided.

    Pros

People are nice that you work with. Employees are invested in the company and only want the best for it. The company will pay for furthering education of employees when they have the money for it. They do support a good work/life balance. They have an HSA and Insurance that is pretty good.

    Cons

Management is not doing a good job of managing the company. They have forced weeks of unpaid furloughs on their employees twice in two and a half years. And they have laid off 50 people that amount of time between the furloughs. Someone is not doing a good job with the money that is coming in. They talk about "transparency" yet they blindsided us with unpaid furloughs after celebrating only a month before for having a great year.

    Advice to Management

Stop paying for those expensive cars, the gas, and their upkeep for the senior employees. I can understand that in a very large company with lots of revenue. H&A is not that. Start really being transparent with your employees instead of just saying that.

    Pros

The work was rarely limited to one sector or market which allows for personal growth in many specific fields. The product was very important to the staff. The management seemed to be centered around solid engineering and professionalism rather than just salesmanship. Good mix of personalities, technical levels, and resources from various trades.

    Cons

Limited model for growth for some employees.

    Advice to Management

Promote folks based on relationships with customers and potential for revenue rather than a defined structural hierarchy.
