I have been working at Hannaford Bros. part-time

    Pros

Flexible hours, will work around your given availability. Great for part-timers, especially students who are going to college. Work load isn't too hard, keeps you busy and active throughout the day and so it goes by pretty quick. Management in most departments are all very nice. Training is extensive - first with video then with a week of on the job work.

    Cons

Pay isn't great - do get yearly raises but are really small. Company policy is clear, but ultimately depends on management quality in the particular store.

    Advice to Management

Should make announcements for promotion opportunities within the area/store. There is a lack of transparency for some of these opportunities which is frustrating - to hear about a position after it was filled.

    -Little upward mobility

    Pros

People, Co-Workers are friendly. Cleanliness of Environment. Store concepts are great, freshness. Store events. They contribute to various businesses and organizations.

I have been working at Hannaford Bros. part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Above minimum wage, time and a half on Sunday's and holidays, easy job. Scholarship opportunities.

    Cons

After working for my first year I got a $0.17 raise, and after two years I got a $0.14 raise. After two years of service, I received a little less than 2% raise the first year and a 1% raise the second year. There is no motive here. Market basket in my town pays 20% more than here with bonuses. I wish I started there. I'm college bound so I have no need to change jobs.

    Advice to Management

Give motive to employees. "You'll do it or you'll be fired" is not an effective way to motivate people.

I have been working at Hannaford Bros. part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Usually pretty easy to get time off if needed. Coworkers are generally decent people

    Cons

So much disrespect is shown to the lower level employees who generate all the sales and do all the work. Managers come down on the floor and don't know what we're going through. Very low pay.

    Advice to Management

Get in touch with the people around you. We are all here to get a job done, not to hide in the office and look like you care only when you walk the floor.

I worked at Hannaford Bros. part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Raises start just after 6 months, and carry over when minimum wage increases
    Paid breaks,
Small, free life insurance issued to part time workers
    They offer leaves of absences
Easy to change schedule to fit your life

    Cons

    Rude customers,
    Management just needs bodies present,
    Repetitive and unrewarding work,
    No real opportunities to advance,
Stopped getting hours every time a new wave of high schoolers were hired,

    Advice to Management

Stop nitpicking people, I was only scolded once or twice in my 3 years there, but I've seen employees get scolded over the smallest and most ridiculous things that do not matter in the grand scheme of customer service in a grocery store.
Let your employees drink water! It sounds small, but when you're deep into a 10 hour shift and constantly talking to customers and running around, you get really thirsty and cant just break away from your register with a line, go to get a sip of water in the back.
Create a better system to reward employees, we had nothing to work towards. There was an employee of the month wall but that included every department of the store, create some incentive of sorts.
