I have been working at Hanover Hospital full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Nurses work as a team
Management has recently hired more RNs for border patients

    Cons

    High stress
    So many committees
    Reactive vs proactive

    Advice to Management

Listen to staff prior to making such rash decisions. Stop always blaming the staff and take Time to listen.

I have been working at Hanover Hospital full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Safe and easy commute. Easy parking. Many good co-workers

    Cons

I worked here for many years. My manager was a woman so completely self absorbed that she never missed a photo op or chance to brand an employee's good idea as her own. She promoted perceived loyalty to her over ability, education, and experience every time. Very insecure and controlling, though this was not confined to our department exclusively. Several other managers were also very "difficult." Some were ok. The CNO is out of touch with reality. She has brought on some of her cronies from MD hospitals where she has worked in the past who are equally poor leaders. The wages are poor. There was no weekend differential and shift differentials were poor. Nurses are floated from unit to unit with little consideration for skill or patient acuity. It can be dangerous at times due to the staffing mix. They prefer young staff who make less money and who will be less likely to challenge authority. Those with opinions or backbones need not apply. They insist wages are "market" competitive. I think they are comparing their wages with Myers Meat Market, maybe?

    Advice to Management

A new team would be best for patients and staff. The hospital needs charismatic leadership not simply a superficial face lift to boost the HCAHPS. It may be all about the survey to you, but it is really all about the patients.

I worked at Hanover Hospital full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Some good employees mostly backstabbers waiting to make themselves look good by capitalizing on others.

    Cons

If you are in good with Dr Freer then you don't need to worry about what you know or how you do your job.

    Advice to Management

Too many chiefs not enough Indians.
Unrealistic expectations from non workers. Again it's who you know that keeps your job not what you know.

    Pros

There are no good reasons to work there. Management is terrible, treatment of patient's is terrible, it's all about numbers and money.

    Cons

Management forever putting you down. It's all about money in their eyes.

    Advice to Management

    Change all of the management.

I have been working at Hanover Hospital full-time

    Pros

Promotes team work. They care about your opinion.

    Cons

Nurse Assistants should make more than they make here, but they are non-profit so the budget might be tight.

I have been working at Hanover Hospital full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Small hospital so once you learn your way, you can't get lost. It's pretty much a circle. They have a pretty good insurance plan, free parking, very clean hospital.

    Cons

Extremely short staffed. High turnover rate.
The people within this hospital are very very back in time with racism and technology. Not very diverse at all
The pay is beyond low for anyone who isn't a registered nurse or physician. Human resources department is very small. When one person is out you're SOL on getting any type of assistance.

    Advice to Management

Take initiative when listening to your staff. Quit lying and undermining your employees.

I worked at Hanover Hospital full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Local commute. Enjoyed caring for people from my own community.

    Cons

No administrative support, HR dept. a joke. Senior management not concerned with staffing issues, only want better scores on patient surveys. Sad really. A lot of agency staff should tell you a lot about their staff retention.

    Advice to Management

Instead of focusing on surveys, try focusing on patient care and supporting the staff. CEO Jim Wissler took the fall for years of mismanagement.

Difficult to make changes. Staffing shortages. Rarely see upper management.
