I have been working at Harbor Freight Tools full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Good Vacation and benefits

    Cons

Over night shifts, cut back on labor hours, managers do everything you have no specific duty

I have been working at Harbor Freight Tools full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The pay and bonuses, the discount you get and the clientele. I’ve met some of the best people working for Harbor Freight

    Cons

The hours and expectations are ridiculous. The backward processes that do not help you do your job. The lack of training, they expect you to learn everything on your own. Over hire and gives no one hours, and can’t retain talent. Turn over is very high. Very unprofessional store managers

    Advice to Management

Properly train your people to keep them. Give them hours to want to stay instead of over hiring and giving them 8 hours a week.

I have been working at Harbor Freight Tools part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Decent pay, annual review raises, easy work environment, paid time off

    Cons

Angry customers, Store managers that know nothing and do nothing, never recieve full time.....work hard to recieve your bonus and when you meet numbers, (so you thought) you get screwed on your bonus. So why try? They put sales employees on other jobs...
i.e. sales people doing truck, replenishment and POGs, ad sets, audits.....

    Advice to Management

Quit raising the expected metric numbers and name and email numbers because its impossible. Not everyone has a smart phone or computer. Especially when you offer a monthly bonus to supervisors for expected numbers, which have been met, but yet never recieve a full bonus and can NEVER get a breakdown of why we did not recieve our bonuses eventhough numbers have been met. Train your store Managers to know how to run a whole store including counting safe and tills and closing a store, not leaving early and never doing anything in a whole days shift.

I have been working at Harbor Freight Tools full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits. Fun fast paced environment. Paid holidays. Sick time and vacation time accrue quickly. Promote from inside the company.

    Cons

Bad hours. Upper management is very negative to employees "below them". No positive reinforcement for hard work. Unrealistic expectations for LOD program.

    Advice to Management

The LOD program needs to be structured better. I feel that it can actually inhibit customer service because you must be out on the floor at all times which makes it hard to give individual customer service. IE: Checking in the warehouse for an item or actually pulling the item yourself for the customer so there is little wait.

I have been working at Harbor Freight Tools part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

its a nice place to work, as long as your management team actually does their job.

    Cons

i enjoy the work itself, but management at store 163 in Stuart Florida let employees slack off in the office with no disciplinary actions, they let them talk on the phone during business hours, they dont stick to the LOD schedule, cant remember the last time we had a 3 minute meeting.

    Advice to Management

recognize your employees. dont hold incidents that happened 2+ years ago against them and prevent them from moving up in the company. i broke a handheld scanner TWO AND A HALF YEARS AGO and ive not been able to get ANY promotion since then. was always told to work on my composure, so i did. then along comes a new guy with a composure 10 times worse than mine and he comes along and within 8 months is management. ive been there three years. thrown my back out 3 times on the clock, jammed both of my thumbs almost to the point of breaking them both, ON THE CLOCK, even got hospitalized on truck day for dehydration and heat exhaustion, and after all ive put my body through, im still a part time associate. not even a senior associate. waste of the last 3 years.

I worked at Harbor Freight Tools full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Small private company, great customer base. Unique environment sales spiffs encourage associate selling. Benefits are pretty good nowadays and affordable

    Cons

Work life balance is non existent, lack of communication, tasking so much the logistics team is broken down into nothing and increases turnover. Unrealistic work expectations

    Advice to Management

Look at your dm presence and the lack of engagement within you're districts I've heard the other districts actually represent the company well Chicago does not.
