I worked at Harbor Freight Tools full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Vacation accrual, bonuses, benefits, 20% discount.

    Cons

Very unprofessional work environment. I had fellow co works, District managers, upper management all swear consistently. I've been doing tgis for 17 years and couldn't stand more than 2 weeks because of this. Another store manager was in her mid 20s and acted like a child and made fun of her assistants constantly but it was supported by the dm. Expect to work 70 hrs during their parking lot sale. A lot of "blacked out weeks" for vacation- around 12 weeks total. If you want to take a step back in your career, hft is for you.

    Advice to Management

Be professional. I don't need to hear the f word 4 thousand times a day.
We all know employers are closing, quit gloating about it, one day it'll catch up to you.
    Treat employees better.
Give full time associates full time hours. The assistant store managers were getting 34 hrs a week and supervisors 32. But that's how you make your bonuses.

    Pros

Simple to understand products, good and friendly customers, stores are not too big and simple to understand.

    Cons

High employee turnover due to the poor quality of employees hired. High emphasis on doing specific functions even during very busy or complicated times out of fear of retaliation by the regional manager. Not many hours are available for part time employees.

    Pros

Co-workers usually willing to help when having trouble figuring out where inventory goes.

    Cons

Hours scheduled for depend on your replacement plan & membership sales.

    Advice to Management

Don't punish employees that aren't able to make the sales, cashiers are there to ring sales, not push plans or memberships that customers don't want.

I worked at Harbor Freight Tools (More than a year)

    Pros

The managers are really cool and for the most part are helpful and not always watching your back. Very laid-back environment that is fun unless it is really busy. Most of the customers are repeat customers so they are enjoyable as well.

    Cons

The district managers scare everybody at the store. They demand a lot out of employees and managers which creates a bad work environment. They create unrealistic measures for stores to achieve.

    Advice to Management

First and foremost, pay more money to warehouse workers. The turn around rate in that department is insane and the only way to keep them is to pay that position more money. When the warehouse work is finished and organized, it makes everything else easier and better for the cashiers and floor people.

I worked at Harbor Freight Tools full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Annual Friends and Family Discount
    Store Discount
    Good Benefits

    Cons

Terrible corporate culture with a rapacious mentality that trickles down from Eric Smidt
Management has little to no experience or training
VP's are untrustworthy, greedy, and unprofessional
No career ladder exists at this company
Focus is solely on opening more brick and mortar stores, which is a terrible business model
Employee treatment is poor, leading to high turnover
    Discrimination is regularly practiced
Micromanagement is the only method at the company
Despite what management says, bonuses only go to VPs
Absolutely zero morale boosting on all fronts / it's the exact opposite
Once again, anyone below management is the last priority

    Advice to Management

Doesn't matter, management believes they're perfect.
