    Pros

co workers were great and offered support. Educational trainings were regularly offered on site by clinical staff. Clinical staff and interdisciplinary team were supportive of the Service Coordinators in working with the clients and meeting goals.

    Cons

The case loads continued to get higher each year. The union was not very strong in advocating for the service coordinators. Salary caps out after 5 years.

    Advice to Management

Some of the middle managers were exceptional and should be recognized for the support and guidance that they offer their teams.

    Cons

Ineffective management; lack of agency investment in adequate training and skill development; inconsistent implementation of service policies and employment standards; job duties exceeded.

    Advice to Management

Invest in more specific and specialized training for more effective management and greater knowledge base for counselors; reduce case management loads to allow counselors to more effectively work with clients/families.

I worked at Harbor Regional Center full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Friendly atmosphere depending on which team you are in, many celebrations, pot lucks, birthdays. Executive director loves Halloween. You will have fun on that day. She also recognizes employees who work 5 plus years at the all staff meeting. On site trainings on various topics related to dd, mental health etc...It is rewarding to see children grow and improve and to see parents become knowledgeable about their child's diagnosis. Good benefits and good life work balance since we are off at 5pm.

    Cons

Extremely high caseload and you are expected to work super fast and efficiently, frequent changes, and decisions made without employee input and feedback. If you are fast and efficient you will have no problem working here.

    Advice to Management

Collaborate with employees who actually go out into the field and have realistic ideas on how to make the job better. Good theories and ideas may not be practical to carry out. Think of spillover effects when making major decisions and prepare employees for transitions. Be more understanding, flexible with service coordinators by being encouraging and supportive, asking questions, providing them with additional training. Not only meet family's of clients where they are at but also employees as well.

I have been working at Harbor Regional Center full-time

    Pros

Working with families and clients. Good benefits.

    Cons

Not many positions to move up to. More work than can be done during regular work week. No cost of living increases. No part time positions

    Advice to Management

Keep overall morale up and work load to reasonable expectations

    Pros

Great benefits, good schedule, nice office environment. I enjoyed the people that I worked with and was able to get a lot of experience in the social work field. I liked splitting time in the office with time out in the field doing client visits.

    Cons

Caseloads can sometimes get a little high. Some people reported dissatisfaction with management but really, in comparison with other regional centers and non-profit agencies, Harbor is actually really good.
