The people at HMH are very nice and good to work with. The hospital is growing and moving strategically in the right direction- competing with the larger hospitals in Louisville

I have been working at Hardin Memorial Hospital full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Half of the hospital employees are very friendly. Better than minimum wage. The insurance isn't too bad.

    Cons

The environment is very "clicky". People gossip and are in everyone's business. Barely any room for advancement in certain departments.

    Advice to Management

Be more open to new people. Don't facilitate the "clickyness". Treat your employees better and you might not have such a high turnover rate.

    Pros

It is a local hospital if you don't want to drive to Louisville.

    Cons

    Not enough pediatricians in town.

    Advice to Management

This is your online job description: Job Description

    Associate's Degree
    RN Required
The registered nurse is responsible for managing and providing for age appropriate patient care, possibly from neonatal to geriatrics. This includes the immediate, short-term nursing care needs of patients, as well as, planning for long-term needs. The nurse's scope of practice is determined by the Kentucky Nurse Practice Act and established Hardin Memorial Hospital and patient care services policies, procedures and standards of practice. Graduate of school of nursing with current unrestricted Kentucky license required. One-year clinical experience as Registered Nurse required. Ability to work well under stress and possess effective communication skills is required. BLS preferred upon hire, required within 90 days of hire. ACLS preferred upon hire, required within one year of hire.

To me, as someone who has been a nurse for 26 years, it reads that the person will be pulled ALL OVER the hospital. And why require ACLS? Maybe I'm not interested in working on an adult unit. So to this job description I will quickly move on to the next one. It isn't specific enough and leaves a lot of questions unanswered. No thanks!

    Advice to Management

Seriously look at your leaders agendas. They are not what is best for the organization or the patients

    Pros

Pay scale and benefits are competitive with other facilities. A number of middle management support staff consistently.

    Cons

Upper management are detached from what actually goes on. The facility preaches support and family friendly environment but that is not the case. Management is supportive ONLY to the extent required by Federal law and not one iota more. Very reactive rather than proactive.

    Advice to Management

Practice what you preach. What is advertised is not congruent with actual practice.
