    Amazing Employee Focused Culture

    Nov 4, 2021 - Software Engineer

    Pros

A people first mentality is really ingrained in the culture from top to bottom. Company makes a serious effort at diversity and inclusiveness, doesn't feel like lip service. Open and honest leaders have built a very trusting environment. Fun and interesting projects. Incredible engineering team eager to share knowledge, best practices. Different departments very open to sharing insight into their respective fields. Environment encourages learning and growth. Flexible working schedule and arrangements.

    Cons

Team is mixed remote and in office. Being out of office can feel at times feel disconnected. Official development growth path feels unclear. Work life balance is good for the industry, still probably could be better.

    Leadership needs to do better

    Pros

I met some of the kindest, most empathetic people. The actual employees at the ground level are wonderful and inclusive. Unlimited PTO they actually encourage you to use, and the work-life balance is good.

    Cons

Leadership says they back their employees, but when multiple devs were being abused by an external collaborator, leadership took the abuser's side immediately every time. They were willing to throw their employees to the wolves to get their game out the door. The values they talk about so much crumbled when actually put to the test. It's one thing to say you care about employees. It's another to actually show it, even when it's difficult. Many employees were also left in the dark about the health of the company. They were told things would be totally fine and layoffs wouldn't happen after the sudden end of a project, only to find themselves laid off without warning a few months later. Either leadership lied to everyone's face, or they had such a poor understanding of their own company's future they couldn't even see a couple of months down the road. I can't decide which is worse.

    Lack of honesty by management

    Jun 30, 2021 - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

401k, decent pay if you're otherwise used to only knowing contract pay positions in the area, really nice coworkers.

    Cons

Lack of drive by managment, lack of transparency by managment, false promises, poor morale, no room for growth, lots of talk of diversity but laid off most of their women/people of color/non gender conforming people while touting how totally diverse the studio is, poor structure and planning.

They'll tell you what you want to hear

    Jul 6, 2021 - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

Met some of the nicest people in the industry

    Cons

Management will work to make sure you believe that there will always be work, that more is coming, etc. They'll have you pitch them multiple ideas for new games, which you'll find out later was essentially just a waste of time as you'll be laid off shortly after. This is a AA studio that could have done something great, but botched it. They hired great people and then didn't have the guts to let those people create something amazing after their work on BL2.

Good studio filled with really good people

May 14, 2021 - Art Director in Seattle, WA

    Pros

Hardsuit Labs is filled with dedicated and genuinely good people, top to bottom. Good reputation and business connections in the industry High profile, stable work lined up Experienced leadership heading each department

    Cons

Starting on new projects that the team wasn't built for. Will need to bring in new people with the experience to fill those roles, which can be a struggle. Could be a good opportunity for the new people though. West Seattle can be tough to get to if you want to go to the office once things open up. Not a lot of walking options around the office for food.

    Going nowhere

    Apr 27, 2021 - Anonymous Employee

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. Unlimited Vacation time Ok benefits Team leads were very good, not sure about studio leadership though.

    Cons

Mostly third party projects with very little ownership or opportunities for advancement. Low compensation compared to similar studios in the area. Very high turnover, 1 or 2 people submit notices every week. This isn't normal for a studio of this size. Ever since the big name project ended it feels like the studio is on life support. Would recommend for someone beginning their career, can't recommend for anyone else.

    Pros

It has a friendly environment and the co-workers are really nice. The leads genuinely care about people.

    Cons

Lower salary than industry standard since it is a small studio. It had a disorganized structure in the beginning.

    Pros

Genuinely kind and compassionate people Promotes diversity Good entry level positions, plenty of learning opportunities Good benefits Generally willing to hire its contractors to full-time Fun, team-building culture No gate-keeping across seniority; easy to speak directly to CEO and COO

    Cons

Studio suffers from not only its own growing pains, but those of its publisher, Paradox Often poor communication High turnover rate Lower pay than larger studios in the area A lot of talk, very little solid decision making
