I worked at Harker School Foundation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Harker is a generous institution for employees and students. Both my mother and I have been full time employees there and have benefited greatly from the professional administration, understanding department heads, and a professional community that assists one another.

    Cons

Working in Silicon Valley is difficult as housing is high priced and commuting is a major hassle.

    Advice to Management

    n/a

    Pros

Free food, most teachers and staff are nice. Why must I fill in 20 words min for pros, what if there aren’t any?

    Cons

Outdated dress code, cliquish staff, unrealistic expectations, pointless meetings. If you have a different point of view then you are marginalized. They purposely hire staff as part timers so they don’t have to pay benefits, etc

    Advice to Management

I think that most of these reviews are written by teachers (who are probably treated much better than part time staff). I was marginalized and picked on from the beginning from my team. They held me to unrealistic expectations and often brought up political issues that were inappropriate for the workplace. If you mildly disagreed with them, then you’re thrown under the bus. Most people have an archaic/closed minded point of view which should not be taught to students

I worked at Harker School Foundation full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

A wonderful school that supports its teachers and students physically, financially, and emotionally. Small class sizes, resources aplenty, dedicated students, cooperative faculty with a team mindset...you won't find a better place to teach. The pay is excellent. Whatever you ask for in terms of classroom equipment and supplies, you get. And you're pretty free to teach as you want to.

    Cons

Sometimes parents can be quite demanding, but once you listen carefully and uncover their true concerns and fears, you can work well with them. Also you work far beyond 40 hours a week. (But there are 10 weeks off in the summer, two weeks in December, one in February, and one in April, so...)

    Pros

Excellent school to work; wonderful students and families

    Cons

none; school is in expansion phase (construction) so that impacts accessibility on the main campus but not really a con.

    Advice to Management

    none

I have been working at Harker School Foundation full-time

    Pros

The students do amazing things here, but they are also kind and care about others. I'm continually inspired by this community of hard-working yet fun-loving students, faculty and staff. There are some nice perks such as low-priced take-home dinners for busy faculty and staff, and professional development opportunities.

    Cons

The school is currently going through a change of leadership (current longtime head leaving to head a school in Switzerland), but I trust that the school will handle the transition well.

    Pros

The teachers here all know so much that I am constantly learning and growing.

    Cons

There is not much room to climb the ladder because people work for Harker forever!!

    Pros

Good pay, good food, smart kids, you're working for a private school in Silicon Valley, good benefits. Near local coffee shops and safe work environment.

    Cons

very bureaucratic, competitive student culture, entitled students. Sometimes working over time, terrible traffic at the start and end of school since it is located near a freeway exit

    Advice to Management

check in on employees more often, provide more frequent feedback and communication, have student evaluations of teachers, change unnecessarily strict, outdated dress code
