I have been working at Harlandale ISD part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very welcome, good with my hours, pay is okay. Teachers are very appreciative of all that you do if you do a great job

    Cons

Some schools could be very difficult to work with and very unorganized, sometimes assistant teachers can be a bit rude

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Harlandale ISD full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Students were always the highlight of my day. 😄 I truly love teaching. I only stayed for them.

    Cons

If we were "family", it was a dysfunctional family. I was often called "Northside" because I live on the north side of town. Most PLCS were conducted in Spanish which I don't understand. Made report with administration and NOTHING was done. New principal that came in was even worse. Many teachers very unprofessional and not reprimanded. Lousy and very expensive insurance.

    Advice to Management

Micro manage your principals like they do us. Question the high turnover rate. Treat all races fairly before you get a lawsuit.

    Pros

They really do support the Fine Arts Program. Located in the South Side of San Antonio, the Fine Arts is a big part of the community.

    Cons

Medical Insurance options aren't that great. I wish teachers were better taken care of in regards to insurance.

I worked at Harlandale ISD part-time

    Pros

Working with students and being able to pick what days you want to sub or not.
    Flexibility

    Cons

Picking up jobs can backfire because there isn't a guarantee and there may be no jobs for the days you want to work it's all based on how many people need subs and it's a first come first serve thing.
Substitutes in general since forever are not taken seriously so teachers may leave work or may not
But students will decide how your day will be so that job is a serious as you want to make it. If students were conditioned to believe subs were just as important as teachers the job may be more fulfilling.
Pay is not great at least in this district.
