I have been working at Harman Becker Automotive Systems full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Just got acquired by Samsung and now dominates all close competitors.

    Cons

Too many new contracts for limited resources

    Advice to Management

Try to retain already-trained, experienced personnel

    Pros

Not many, they don't pay much attention to what is going on so if you want to coast it's easy.

    Cons

Lots of slackers. Which is fine if you are one, but lots of dead weight if you aren't. Senior staff distracted by politics

    Advice to Management

    Wake up

    Pros

Room to grow. Lots of low hanging fruit.

    Cons

Automotive companies tend to garner a lot of rage. People need to chill. That's not an HBAS problem.

I have been working at Harman Becker Automotive Systems full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great breadth and depth of experience in all areas. A position here will quickly make you an expert in your field if you're willing to work hard. Independent research experience is possible and appreciated.

    Cons

Unrealistic project schedules due to little oversight in sales and management. Budget is heavily controlled by German office, which severely limits resources and advancement opportunities.

    Advice to Management

Management outside of the hardware team needs to understand what kind of effort is required to design a new product.

I worked at Harman Becker Automotive Systems full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The best reasons to work there are that there is always overtime if you wanted it, I did have wonderful co-workers who were fun to work with. The job was challenging with something new to handle every day.

    Cons

There were absolutely no opportunities for advancement. Raises were the same across the board for the best and the worst workers, no incentives to go above and beyond the norm. There was a very poor work/life balance, we were forced to work 6 and sometimes 7 days a week for weeks on end.

    Advice to Management

Please do your job! Don't delegate all of your duties to your employees. Try to act like you care about your people and stop playing favorites. Consider having a better evaluation process instead of giving everyone an average review. Try compensating employees according to their worth, not giving the same raises across the board.
