I worked at Harman Music Group as an intern

    Pros

Excellent internship opportunity. HMG paid for my schooling and was very flexible with my work hours during the internship. This was a wonderful learning opportunity.

    Cons

The commute from any of the local college campuses during the winter can be difficult on a snow day.

    Advice to Management

Keep the internship program going. I feel like I was able to contribute in a meaningful way while gaining valuable experience as a college student.

I worked at Harman Music Group as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Clean. Several employees are just wonderful. Ready to teach if you're ready to learn

    Cons

Others because of money will let you go your not already knowledge.
Cliches, some people think they are better than others. Very picky on who they hire and since crown sold them they are extremely money conscious.

    Advice to Management

I can't say, never met any of them.

    Pros

Harman has many great people on their staff.

    Cons

Can be slow moving, given the company size.

I worked at Harman Music Group part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great pay (for a teen) and hands on working with electronic boards
    Loyal to employees
    GREAT benefits

    Cons

    4pm-3am
Management sometimes wouldn't hear their employees
Loyal to employees even at the expense of the product and company

    Advice to Management

When a team member informs you that one of your long time electricians is changing the program to accept the measurement of a part over 20% out of range, look into it just don't brush him off.

  5. "Cool people but becoming horribly corporate"

I have been working at Harman Music Group full-time

    Pros

Some of the coolest people in the world work here and much of the work is interesting.

    Cons

It's developing a large corporate mentality. Decisions are made that deeply impact your work and career with little or no input from the employee.

    Advice to Management

Stop shooting from the hip on big, sweeping decisions and ask the people who've worked in this industry and environment for years what the implications of these decisions might be.

    Pros

A great job if you are upper management.

    Cons

Not too great for those that worked hard for many, many years!

    Advice to Management

Should have been more fair to the workers producing your product, and making all of the money.

I worked at Harman Music Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good employee discounts for company audio products!
In general, employees are treated decently in terms of salary, benefits, accommodation of personal emergencies, etc.
    Unique Halloween tradition is family-friendly.

    Cons

Somewhat behind the times in procedures, development tools, attitudes.
Slow product development – meaning new products are always a generation or two behind the competition.
There may never be a breakthrough "disruptive innovation" from this design group.
Employees are not much interested in personal improvement. (Few take graduate studies, for example). Employees settle into comfortable jobs with limited horizons and collect their paychecks. That's about all.
    Some managers tend to "micromanage".
There is little synergy with other Harman Design Groups around the world.

    Advice to Management

The Sandy Design Group could continue a decade longer with minor product design improvements, but there is no will to reach for a revolutionary new product. This would require a radical change in Management attitude and perhaps a new set of employees.

I worked at Harman Music Group as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

The people were really nice, everywhere from management to warehouse workers. Even as an intern I received benefits including dental/medical.

    Cons

The employees were all afraid of getting laid off. Upper management, senior engineers, and lower level people were all on the chopping block. Also as an intern, I really just did paperwork for the engineers. Sure I did some soldering and debugging, but it was not the learning experience I had hoped for.

    Advice to Management

Don't put the fear of God into your solid employees.

    Pros

I enjoyed working with the people I came in contact with

    Cons

Month end madness. You never knew how long you were going to be working.
