I have been working at Harmonic full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Smart people who form a hard working and effective team.

We have local managers and directors that set clear goals, look out for us, keep us well-informed of company marketing and sales opportunities, new customers and how business is actually going.

A quiet environment where work can and actually gets done.

    Cons

The usual issues with working in a satellite office.

Difficulty in finding and hiring qualified replacement managers.

    Advice to Management

    Maintain the course.

I worked at Harmonic full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great engineers (the ones that are still left and have been around for the past 15+ years)

    Cons

Terrible management, clueless, fighting for their jobs it seems, political battles among the VPs. Too many useless VPs actually. Keeping their jobs as a stepping stone for their next job.

    Advice to Management

Do the company a favor and resign because you're just making it worse for the engineers and driving the company to bankruptcy.

I have been working at Harmonic full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Passionate, hard working team members at all levels.
Well managed transition from hardware products to software to cloud. Many new products and services being released each month, to global customers.
Lots of personal growth opportunities. Great environment to learn new technologies, and operate in start-up like mode for new products and services.

    Cons

As many other mid-sized companies with global workforce footprint, need to be flexible with working hours. Though if able to manage working the timezones, can get a lot done in 24 hour period.

    Advice to Management

Keep leveraging the strengths of global workforce and modern technologies.

I worked at Harmonic full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Competitive salaries at the medium level, still good people in the company but with not good management. Benefits are ok

    Cons

The company grew and the VPs/Director believes that it is a big company and it is not, it is a small arrogant company, a lot complexes of greatness. Many bad companies acquisition has be done, who took these decisions is killing the company. the future of the company is very uncertain if they do not change their management, many generals (Bosses) and few soldiers, too many “VPs” that have Junior level.

    Advice to Management

Review actual management (Directors and VPs), need to be changed ASAP otherwise 👎🏻

I worked at Harmonic full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent products in video industry. Some of the excellent employees.

    Cons

Unhealthy work environment, toxic. Old timers are unpleasant, arrogant, sometimes abusive and old school management style. Culture is old fashion. Micro management, no respect for others and everyone in management is trying to do what pleases them. Engineering management is a joke, very old school culture.

    Advice to Management

New management needed. Look at the financials... ever declining.

I worked at Harmonic full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Interesting work with lots of different areas to work on and very challenging projects. Very little politics in engineering department.

    Cons

Since I left San Jose office has been reducing Engineering head count. CEO/Board do not have a long term view and seems to be making the wrong decision. The video compression market is being replaces by streaming where Harmonic can not compete with existing players.

I have been working at Harmonic full-time

    Pros

Forefront of video and cloud technology.

    Cons

Unable to successfully make the transition to Cloud Computing. Employee morale has become a disconcerting issue.

    Advice to Management

Saying "we don't care about the morale problem" is not going to make the problem go away. It is going to get worse until the company finally dies.
