I have been working at Harmonic full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Flexible schedule (WFH, lots of PTO)
Camaraderie in the Beaverton, OR, office

    Cons

The Agile development process was never fully implemented across the company in a consistent way. Every team does something different, making it hard to work cross-functionally.
High level decision making focuses on short term gains; not enough long term planning or serious tracking to a defined long-term schedule.
No employee training on company products or development process. It's up to new hires to find someone who has tribal knowledge of a what we do and how we do it.
Working from a satellite office can sometimes feel like being a second string player.

I have been working at Harmonic full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Strongest, most stable company (by far) in the global M&E/Video technology business. Interesting solutions, fast moving market, smart employees, good teamwork (overall). Transition to cloud is starting, while competitors are flailing. Very strong innovation team. VQ expertise will play well in mobile space. CableOS has enormous potential. VR could be interesting as well.

    Cons

Tough, niche market. Leverage move to cloud and transition to other segments (enterprise, consumer, medical/healthcare).

    Advice to Management

Drop older/legacy products faster, or sell them off. Cloud is the future.

I worked at Harmonic full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The pay and benefits is competitive.

    Cons

Anyone looking for a institutionalized and/or dog eat dog work environment then this place is for you. Management is out of touch with reality and decisions are largely based on maintaining the status quo or simply out of pride and incompetence. If anyone has doubts, please look at the company financials for the past several years. The numbers speak for volumes as to whether the management team is truly steering the ship in the right direction.

    Advice to Management

The board of directors need to recruit new C-level talent if they want the company to succeed against the likes of Amazon, ARRIS, etc.
