I worked at Harmony Science Academy full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

complete freedom of curriculum design and implementation, opportunities to become involved in numerous aspects of education and administration if interested, several opportunities for extra money

    Cons

parent involvement is primarily negative (when there is any at all), although it is getting better, many teachers are hired simply because they are Turkish and need visas to come to the US - this causes serious issues for students and teachers alike, for some time vendors were given contracts simply because they were Turkish-nepotism costs the school tons of money each year.

    Advice to Management

continue the great movement toward a much more student centered environment and keep good teachers when you get them, pay them more and find ways to get them to buy into and build the positive culture necessary to succeed

    Pros

Other teachers were helpful and willing to share resources

    Cons

Awful..I have never been so turned off by a job..You will not receive any support from Admin..You will have Admin that have never taught so have no idea what happens inside a classroom. My kids didn't even know who the principal was until after Christmas. They kept switching everything around so the kids never felt comfortable which means learning became very difficult.. They are ONLY focused on making sure they get that extra money in their pocket from out kids passing tests.. They just want to get as many bottoms in a seat that they can..Again.. so they can get that money... Encouraging words to the staff were non existent!! Awful work environment...The entire staff was miserable daily. Not worth the stress!!
