I have been working at Harper & Pearson Company full-time

    Pros

The firm provides employees with opportunities to work with clients in a variety of industries. After-work firm sponsored events are generally enjoyable. Free snacks, interesting work, depending on your team. The firm offers Compensation Time/Over time benefits. Excess hours can be taken as comp time or paid as straight time upon your request.

    Cons

If you are looking for longevity growth this is not a firm for experienced professionals who want to provide input, inclusion, technical guidance training, and mentorship. The practice recently sold 40% of their audit practice (banking) which has reflected in morale decline. Heavy responsibility is placed on inexperienced staff shoulders at an early stage resulting in client dissatisfaction, missed deadline, client...

I worked at Harper & Pearson Company for less than a year

    Pros

Good mix of different types of audit work and working on a $ per hour basis meant getting paid for the long hours.

    Cons

Long hours, but it's public accounting. Traffic can be a nightmare! Not much bad to say here, I enjoyed my time.

    Pros

Great place to work and learn! For the most part, management is very understanding when you have to take care of matters outside of work. In addition, the firm will review your performance and should you perform well, advancement could be quick.

    Cons

    Industries can be limited.

    Advice to Management

    Evaluate after every job.

I worked at Harper & Pearson Company full-time

    Pros

The firm has a lot of clients in various industries and differing tax requirements which allows you to gain more experience than working for firms that specialize. Firm will also pay for your CPA review course and all exam fees.

    Cons

Busy season is brutal where they require at least 55 hours a week but to get everything done it's actually 60 hours per week. No matter how hard you work or go the extra mile you will not be rewarded unless you have the appropriate shareholder on your side to back you up. The work environment is toxic and turnover is very high. Management keeps telling everyone that changes are going to be made but nothing changes except...

They need good people. There is work to do, its a good time to be an accountant. It is a job you can put on your resume.

    Cons

Poor management: Employee reviews are a joke. Sample of what a job posting looks like on their website. ______________________ Tax Senior Requirements •2-4 years of experience Send resume resumes@harperpearson.com ______________ Apparently they are looking for a warm body with 2 to 4 years of experience.

I have been working at Harper & Pearson Company full-time

    Pros

Depends on if you are in tax or audit. In tax, busy season can be a beast, but in audit you are busy most of the year, but will not have to work much more than 50 hours a week in busy season and will get most of your Saturdays off. There are some really great individuals that work at HP. You will get public account experience and learn a lot.

    Cons

Work life balance seems to be good but then your busy season never really ends. Partners are complaining about budgets non stop, even if it is November and there are other people sitting around. They pick out 1 superstar and then run with it. If you are a great worker, but not the superstar, do not expect to ever be promoted. They will flat out refuse to promote good people at this company. They keep saying there...

    Advice to Management

I would recommend that the partners start spending more time caring and getting to know the people in their organization. Also, to try to develop people instead of the throw them into the deep end and see if they can swim mentality. I really think that upper management is out of touch with what is really going on in the organization. They also seem to be greedy and are applying way to much pressure on jobs that really...
