I have been working at Harris Teeter part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It used to be my co-workers, but all but 3 of the original team have left. Soon to only be 2 left. The 10% discount of HT products. The free HT items we get every month. The 2 profit sharing checks per year.

    Cons

Firstly, lack of work hours. You will be lucky to get 10-15 per week. More likely 6-10. There are no baggers who actually bag, they are working in the lots or sweeping the floor. You get monitored for not making the scanning quota, which you can't attain if you have to do your own bagging. If you go to help out a store in need, you don't get mileage from home, but from your home store. If you help out and work the night shift, you will not get the shift differential because you were not hired for 3rd shift, even though you are doing the same thing during the same night hours.

    Advice to Management

THE CUSTOMER IS 'NOT' ALWAYS RIGHT. Treat your employees like a customer.

I have been working at Harris Teeter full-time

    Pros

The people aside from management that you'll meet are pretty nice. Although in majority the customers are arrogant, rude, and demanding, there are a few customers that you'll meet that will become almost like family. They have good benefits although your paycheck will be useless after paying for it.

    Cons

The schedule changes without a prior notice. Causing confusion. The place is ALWAYS understaffed. Which is strenuous on the employees. As I mentioned the customers are rude, arrogant, and demanding. Harris teeter has this thing where you cannot tell the customer 'no' no matter how stupid the request is. Somebody asked me to deliver a bag to thier house that was 20 minutes away and I had to say yes. Me being full time I have no say in when I can be scheduled. There were plenty of times where I closed at 11pm and opened at 6 the next day. There are huge pay differences that they say they can fire you for taking about (which they can't because it's illegal). That opens the opportunity for prejudice and favoritism. I've been working there for 3 years and I'm making $10. I had to fight for that $1 pay raise and I find out that a part time kids who's been here for a month is making$10. See what I'm talking about. Management never compliments you on a good job. We can't even talk to each other during shifts because they want you to be 'ready for customers'. They pressure you to get donations for some charity that they do every other month and you get in trouble if you aren't getting enough as if you can control people's desires to be kind.

    Advice to Management

Grow a pair and treat your employees right. Be realistic and set reasonable expectations

I worked at Harris Teeter (More than a year)

    Pros

There are no pros to working at this ridiculous store

    Cons

Anyone who is already in a management position is deathly afraid of any competition for their job, and therefore make sure any promising candidates are beaten down until they leave.

    Advice to Management

Great job selling out to the big guys at Kroger... shows what Harris Teeter is really all about these days...

    Pros

Flexible hours for students in school. You become close with everyone you work with. It's a good entry level job.

    Cons

Dealing with rude customers, sometimes being forgotten for break, not being trained enough to know where products are located in the store.

I have been working at Harris Teeter part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits for part time and full time employees. Great to work for. Also generous with breaks provided they do not impact business needs.

    Cons

Retail industry can be difficult. Customers can be mean and rude. While management is understanding of scheduling, getting time off can be difficult occasionally.
