I have been working at Harris Teeter full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

If you get into management, the bonuses are pretty good. Benefits are decent. Pay is pretty good, if you are coming externally. They max you out at a certain hours per week.

    Cons

Typical retail job. Managers working every holiday, mostly every weekend. They sometimes seem to care about you, but they run their managers down. Lots of turnover even in the management area.

I have been working at Harris Teeter part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible hours. As a student they were more than happy to work with my schedule. They also have options for academic leave. Management was generally pretty nice and accommodating. A good part time job especially for students.

    Cons

Did not get paid enough for the work I did and never had anyone helping me. I was always so busy I could never take a break and never had time to finish everything they wanted me to do that day. They grade departments based on mystery shoppers and you will get in trouble if your department doesn't do well. Not much or any room for advancement.

    Advice to Management

Rightfully compensate your employees for the hard work they do and show them they are valued and appreciated. Provide more opportunities for growth.

I have been working at Harris Teeter part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Relatively easy work
    - Generally kind members of management
    - Learn valuable customer service skills
    - Opportunities to move around the store if you ask for it.

    Cons

    - Frequently short staffed as management is pressured to cut labor
    - Unpredictable hours
    - Work Holidays
    - Weekly schedules are almost always flawed, leaving gaps with too few cashiers (or none), nobody to close, etc. This may be store-specific.
    - At any given time the work is either incredibly monotonous or incredibly stressful.

    Advice to Management

Hire and train stock clerks so that you don't have to spend the majority of your time stocking/facing shelves, and instead might be able to spend it building effective schedules, cross-training employees, etc. to allow the store to run more efficiently.

I worked at Harris Teeter part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The time passes quickly due to consistent work load and tasks

    Cons

The people you deal with (customers) on a daily basis can have an impact on your morale depending on how you cope with it

    Advice to Management

Be fair in providing raises to young part-time employees, if havent already, base decisions on whether or not they make "star cashier" and how often they make this status on a quarterly basis.

    Pros

Nice people, shifts aren't too long

I have been working at Harris Teeter full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good people and employee discount and bonuses. Luckily our corporate visits are only for show. I enjoy working produce. Store manager and produce dept manager are awesome.

    Cons

The chance of being promoted from within is nonexistent. There is no chance of pay raises unless you are hired off the street into management positions. Definitely some empty promises from the district management level.

    Advice to Management

Notice and give accolades to your employees. We are all working for the almighty dollar for ourselves, not you.

I have been working at Harris Teeter full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Some of the people you get to work with are cool, and if you get a great team in your department you don't mind how unfulfilling the actual work is.

    Cons

As a full time employee I am making roughly enough to land me right at the national poverty level. Also, the company has a lot of managers that are overbearing and just plain mean. If you end up at a store that is not like that, then that's great!

    Advice to Management

I recognize your jobs are probably phenomenally stressful, but that is no reason to not be civil to your lower-ranked employees. A pleasant-ish work environment really helps keep turnover to a reasonable level and makes everyone more cooperative in general.

I worked at Harris Teeter part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very easy job, customers are friendly for the most part. Pay is ok but could be drastically better. Good work life balance.

    Cons

Favoritism. Racial Bias. Eventually learned I didn't get hired into 3 HT corporate jobs because I didn't know anyone there, their all either family, friends of the family or are just in the in the know who type employee if that makes sense. Store management at some stores don't have integrity and are selfish.

    Advice to Management

Selflessness over selfishness. Integrity first! Respect all of your employees no matter the racial background or position. Leave your favoritisms home. Don't bring it to the work place. HR and ASR specialist can't be trusted!
