I worked at Harry Meyering Center (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The people we served were friendly, fascinating, motivated people with rich lives. Each person is different, of course, but I loved working with every one of the 20+ clients this job gave me the opportunity to.

Staff members were interesting, hard-working, flexible, compassionate people who focused doing good deeds for good people. Inspiring, amazing people overall.

    Meaningful, rewarding work.

    Cons

Long hours, low pay, unpredictable schedules, occasional emotional exhaustion. The work takes a lot of psychological endurance. High turnover leads to a constantly changing community and inconsistent expectations.

    Advice to Management

Overall, keep up the good work. It's been a great privilege to work for the company. The SILS department, in particular, is extraordinarily well-run.

I have been working at Harry Meyering Center part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very rewarding job and room for leadership positions. Non-profit organization, which is great. They genuinely care about the clients and try to meet the needs of their employees. Met some of the best people at this organization

    Cons

Very high turn-over rate. Must have a car and very difficult to get time off over the holiday seasons-- seniority is key!

I worked at Harry Meyering Center full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Helping people who really need it!

    Cons

Very strenuous on the body and mind. Can take up a lot of your time!

    Advice to Management

Allow for employees to help schedule their workdays when part time. These kids have classes and stuff that come first.

    Pros

The clients are wonderful and a reason to stay at HMC. It is very rewarding work and you grow because of the work you do.

    Cons

Management ignores concerns brought to them by their employees. Cases of neglect get swept under the rug so to keep up with the "image" of HMC. Employees are very cliquey, gossip frequently, and generally disrespect everyone. Pay is very low compared to other companies.

    Advice to Management

Value the work your employees do. Listen to all concerns brought to you by employees.

    Pros

Good college job, only every other weekend.

    Cons

QMRP fires you for getting close and caring about your clients. You get written up for being friends with coworkers. Most houses only have 1 full time supervisor and 10 part time employees. Not enough hours to go around. No benefits at all, took PTO away because of budget cuts. Company is terrible at managing money. Willing to spend 100,000 to change a house to handicap accessible instead of moving him to a home already hc accessible with an opening.

    Advice to Management

    Don't work for this company.
